DJ and Patcat, I just think it's funny that the dems locked the doors and hid the keys. It's something my kids would do. And the pandering and seat switching of criminals! I'm sorry, I know it's shameful, but it just reads like a comedy. I can't wait to see what Balcer et all will do with it, because how could they resist?
Rom, yep, the switch is just a change in signal. The analog signal is no longer broadcast, so you need a tv with a digital tuner or a digital adaptor to continue getting a signal. It doesn't matter if you have cable, though, in which case your tv signal is routed through the cable and cable box.
Econ is so not my forte, and no one has ever explained to me just what horrid aftermath we would have had if there was no TARP and we just let those banks go under. What does it mean, "too big to fail?"
Like Goren, I'm just a natural born skeptic, and there's been a little voice in the back of my head calling "bullshit" since this whole mess started. It's gotten worse since GM was apparently not too big to fail, even though it seems to employ a hell of a lot more people than those banks. And I'm definitely calling bullshit on what the Obama administration has done to "help" in that situation.
None of the auto-makers are selling cars, and it's not because of their product lines. It's because a lot of people are afraid to buy right now, and the rest can't get a loan from those tight-fisted bankers who are sitting on billions of our tax dollars -- given to them for the specific purpose of LENDING it back to us to buy stuff. I think they just used it to puff their stocks back up, and now they want to give it back so they can get out from under the rules regulating how much money they're allowed to pay themselves. Meanwhile, businesses all over the US are failing because they need that money. The auto and manufacturing industry being hit the hardest, and WORSE, lectured to as if the whole thing is our fault for asking for decent wages and bennefits.
It's all a huge cock-up from my POV. And I know I'm not alone. I fear my blue state may swing red over this ham-fisted travesty.
*sigh*

I'm late to this thread. Belated condolences to Cassie for the loss of her husband. Good luck and best wishes to Ragincajun with her surgery.
I'm able to spend a bit more time posting during the break from my studies. I opted not to take any courses for the first half of the summer session, but I might take a course later this summer to stay ahead of my schedule to earn a Master's degree. All will depend on how much fun I have or can make for myself now that the Stanley Cup playoffs have ended. ;D
Speaking of the SC playoffs, I also didn't mind the Pens taking it all; western Pennsylvania could use a huge boost about as much as Detroit. I wonder what the Wings' Marian Hossa must be thinking; after joining the Pens as a free agent late last season, he rejected a lucrative long term contract to stay with the team, allegedly because he felt he had a better chance to win the Cup with the Wings than with the Pens. Maybe he learned something about loyalty, heart and character when he reflects on his decision over the long summer off season.

Meanwhile, businesses all over the US are failing because they need that money. The auto and manufacturing industry being hit the hardest, and WORSE, lectured to as if the whole thing is our fault for asking for decent wages and benefits. It's all a huge cock-up from my POV. And I know I'm not alone. I fear my blue state may swing red over this ham-fisted travesty. *sigh* [/rant] I'm sorry Trisha. It's all such a mess - I hope things are not too terribly bad for your family but I fear it all couldn't get much worse for the State. A lot of where the first lot of money went and how it was spent was rushed through and ratified in the last months of the Bush administration (imo to pay off some of his business pals while he still had the chance.) The Big O took some steps to cut down on the "take the money and run" mentality of all those who directly benefitted by the second round payouts including banks and auto. But there ought to be more of a safety net in Tarp for regular people, economically devastated by this, to get money directly not through some kind of wishful trickle-down. I do think things will get better and sooner rather than later. I wish all the best for your family in the meantime, Trisha.

Well it's suppose to get to a 100 degrees here today! fortunately I don't have to go out until 6:30pm when I leave for work. Hope everyone is staying cool, esp those in the south. I still wouldn't trade 100 degree weather for a Cincinnati winter though!

I'm with you, Idget! I'll take my long, hot summers over long, freezing winters any day of the week! I visited my grandmother in PA in Feb. and it made me doubly glad that my parents moved south! It was freezing. Fun because we had some snow on the ground. . .but FREEZING!!! LOL!

Today is Father's Day in the U.S. A wonderful Father's Day to my own hubby, who is the best Dad that I know to our kids. Also to all of the Dads that visit this Board. Last but not least..... Happy Fathers Day Vincent! ;D

I heard from Ragin today via Twitter. The surgery is done and she is home from the hospital.
Hope you're feeling 100% very soon, Ragin!
Oh, and Happy Father's Day to all fathers, especially Vincent!

I will be in Niagara Falls next week with some friends. Am looking forward to some cooler weather! Has anyone been there or lives close by? Any restaurant or activity recommendations? We will be staying on the Canadian side but plan on going to the American side and to Buffalo for a day. Sirenna, sorry about your summer I sure hope the strike isn't in Niagara Falls too!

You'll also have to BYO bag and garbage bin and pack a clean swimming pool too> sigh> sorry idget. You're not seeing torontonians at their best and the province might e a bit stinky by the time you arrive. As for the imminent liquor strike - yes, even the summer stockpile of beer is in jeopardy, the LCBO stores downstairs from my office are full of people today - I heard one lady say her manager announced it as a public service at one of her meetings. What next...Ice cream and popiscle strike? yeesh. Some things to do in Niagara themeparks.about.com/od/themeparksincanada/a/NiagaraCanada.htm
