Well, I think he took it because he was just goofing around, both to have fun and put the hostess at ease. And he probably just wanted a picture with Eames.
Look, althought I indulge in fanfic ship (my confession), I think the relationship between Goren and Eames is that of a deep, wonderful friendship. And those can be just as unusual and important as romantic ones, if not more so, IMHO. So, he wanted a picture.

Well, now that makes sense. I was getting worried that there was "something" developing between Goren and Eames. Thanks, guys. ;D

I saw a re-run of this episode recently, and I noticed for the first time how much I resemble this character. Julie, I mean. The way she looks, and probably the way she thinks, too. And I think I would have stabbed the father, too. I hope you don't think I'm a danger to society...I've never harmed anyone in my whole life. But I often felt I should.

Watched this the other night. Wanted to read others insites and helped me understand a few things. I think he took the playful pictures so he could take the picture he wanted of the reservation without looking obvious.

Awww, but he kept the picture of Eames and himself. And put it in his pocket. I always felt he kept the picture of the two of them, so he could show his mom what his partner looked like At least that is what I would have done if I was him. Cause if he is visiting his mummy every week. I believe there would be some small talk about his partner from time to time. and like all moms, she would be wondering what the other woman looks like

I'm wondering if Goren reveals anything about his "other life" to his mother beyond the basics or necessary info. The small amount of screen time I've seen of her makes me think that anything that steals the spotlight from her (especially another woman or his job) would cause only strife between them. It could possibly turn what would be a tolerable tense visit into a drama full of histrionics. I can see Momma Goren puffing up, shutting down and emotionally pushing Bobby away in retaliation/punishment if she became aware of someone else garnering any of his attention.....attention that she so "rightfully deserves".

Point taken Diablodeblanco but, would you still feel the same way, if you hadn't met Mrs Goren this season? Remember Suite Sorrow, was from Season 2. We only knew then that his mom lived at Carmel Ridge, and that she suffered from Schezphrenia. I wonder if aging and the cancer has a made her more of a self absorbed nutbag

Good point to ponder........
There was an episode early on where the character Goren reveals "a phone call every day and a visit once a week". I believe that's the quote, if not it's close enough for discussion purposes. My opinion is that Momma Goren has always been an attention starved woman. Perhaps this is a facet of the mental illness and as such has been there a long time. The cancer and aging came after. Perhaps those two things accentuated the already present neediness. I don't know, but I don't believe they were the cause of it. Something else to ponder would be Daddy Goren being the man-about-town that he was purported to be. Did his escaping to drink/other women have an effect on Momma? Most definitely, but did it make her even more clingy and feeling attention deprived? Did she frantically try to hold on to a man who was slipping away managing only to acerbate the problem? Or did she merely transfer her stifling attentions and great expectations onto the older brother Michael smothering him into self destructive behaviors? So many questions and only opinions and/or suppositions for answers.

Sorry......I hit post before I got off my soap box.
There was yet another episode where Goren was going at a whacko doctor who had killed a man to impress a woman he was attracted to. Very early episode. One where Goren still had his natural teeth. In this episode he makes a statement about his mother not liking any of his girlfriends but she didn't kill any of them. Was this a hint that Momma Goren didn't like sharing a son with another woman......even if this son was not her favorite? Was it a case of Frances wanting all the attention? I am not referring to anything sexual here, merely a possessive mother issue. Some mothers feel no girl is good enough for their son, but I don't believe that's the case here. I think it is more a matter of wanting her son's complete attention. In a more recent episode, Bobby was juggling talking with his mother on the phone and investigating a murder. When Momma Goren thought she didn't have Bobby's complete attention she punished him by abruptly hanging up. Bobby was left saying "mom" to a dead line. In the same episode when Bobby was in the hospital room and got a call to return to the case, his mother became irritated with him. She disdainfully dismissed him with a flip of her hand and a rather contemptuous comment about "the job". I believe ole Frances demands center stage and has for a loooong time.

aww more good points to ponder... Your talking about the episodes "See Me" and "Smothered" from the early days. But why oh why did that good lookin detective , put that picture of him and Eames in his pocket? I don't believe he has a crush on her. Maybe just to put it in his trinket box at home? But guys aren't that sentimental. Who knows maybe asking Eames if she wanted the picture would have made things even odder. Or maybe back in the early days, the writers where already writing the script for the fans to take the scenario of them having an off screen affair for the fans who day dream about that. I had thought that this season in the season premiere, "Blind Spot" that the writers wrote the scene at the end of the show. where we are all looking into the hosptial room with Goren is sitting by the bed talking to Eames. Only we can imagine what he is saying to her

Wishful Thing, Cassie? ;D
All good points, here. I agree with diab about Bobby learning the hard way NOT to mention details about his job, especially women, to mom. He's all she has, so it would be natural for her to feel threatened by another woman in her son's life. She's be afraid that another woman's influence might stop those weekly visits & daily phone calls she treasures.
My take on the photo scene is that we all know how much Goren loves pictures. Not only are they are useful to him in figuring out a suspect, but I personally believe he likes photos & enjoys having them. Remember the negative comment he made in Grow about the picture of the little girl still being in the cardboard frame it came with? What man notices that?
So, if he enjoys displaying photos and has a small collection of framed photos in his home, he would want a picture of Eames for his collection. IT would be awkward for him to ask her for one, so he took advantage of the opportunity when it presented itself.

I think he put the picture of Eames in his pocket for a couple of reasons.
1--What else would he do with it? Give it to Eames? That hits me as rather boorish. Kind of like "here's this pic I just took of us, treasure it always". That would be out of character for him.
2--Take it home to put with other pics of other people he knows? I feel this is more likely. Perhaps when the feeling of isolation or loneliness sets in, he uses the pics to lessen it. Or even to keep those feelings at bay. He did mention in the episode Want that you never get use to the loneliness.
There is another point I hope someone could clear up for me.......
In the episode Suite Sorrow when Goren is snapping pictures, doesn't he also take a snapshot of the blonde hostess? If he did, wonder what he does with that one? Would it go in with his Eames pic? Or would it get left out and daydreamed about?

He didn't take a pic of the hostess...he took a picture of the reservation book and showed it to the perp during the interrogation.
Earlier someone mentioned Bobby calling his mother every day. I always felt it had more to do with his guilt over putting her in Carmel Ridge than mom demanding he call. On the other hand, I did get the feeling she required a lot of Bobby's time and attention, and this has been exacerbated by the cancer diagnosis.

From what he have seen up till now. I think Bobby keeps his personal life personal. And keeps work at work. The way Eames didn't find out about his mom's cancer till he told the cop in Siren Call. Not sure when she found out about his mom's mental illness. But in TWAH he wasn't sharing at all. And when he is with mom I think work isn't discussed, seems mom doesn't ask about his personal life at all. With mom its all about " ME" or now Frank.
I think he took the picture so it didn't look obvious that he was taking a pic of the reservation, and just put both in his pocket. What else was he gunna do with it. But in Poison he said I love looking at pictures.
