Hey guys. If anyone can find out when season 2 is being released, would you mind posting it on here? I have checked with Amazon and they can't tell me anything, except the original L&O-season 2 will be out in May. Thanks, Mo

I haven't been able to find anything on this, either. I wonder if the Season 1 set was a disappointing seller.

I'm not pretending to read NBC's mind ( yeek, scary thought), but last year the Mothership DVD set was released in August and then SVU and LOCI in October. Maybe they'll follow the same release pattern and LOCI2 will be out in July?

Morrigan; your title got my hopes up .... I was grabbing for my credit card I don't know, I think basically all of us on this board have the DVD's .... hell, I even got a copy sent to a member in Australia! Couldn't have been that much of a dud if they went on to make a game out of CI ...... I'm not planned to spend my cashola on that enterprise.

Heh. I didn't think NBC had any minds available for the reading [ on you NBC] Besides, NBC would have no say and nothing to do with any L&O being released on DVD or anything else, anyway. The show is owned by Wolf Studio's in association with Universal Television. NBC pays Wolf Studio's and Universal for the rights to air the show so they can keep us in front of our tv's, watching the commercials. If all goes as planned, after watching CI, we will head to [local restaurant] in our new Lexus, go home and surf ebay on our new Dell computer for a new Samsonite luggage set to take on our Celebrity Cruse, and pay for it all with our Visa Platinum card.

Trisha, You left out sitting on our overpriced Pier 1 furniture, watching the freakin' "Friends" finale five nights in a row!!! Sorry, but if I see another promo for "Friends" I may have to take out a 27 inch tv. Get over yourself, NBC. It's not the greatest comedy. Can you tell I am having mid-term anxiety/venting?! Mo

Besides, NBC would have no say and nothing to do with any L&O being released on DVD or anything else, anyway. I hear what you're saying about the ownership of the series (Wolf and Universal), but it's a bit more complicated than that and NBC actually does have some "say so" in the release of the show on DVD. I obviously don't know the details of their contract, but generally speaking when you pay for "first-rights" for media it gives you some exclusivity and can also include rights to rebroadcast "re-runs." Hence the delay of at least one season before the show (and most others) is released to DVD -- it keeps the DVDs from competing with the broadcast network. Since they ran a few season 2 re-run episodes this season, my guess is that we won't see a release date for the second season DVD until after the current season finale, and probably closer to the next season premiere in the fall.

That makes sense, but don't forget that USA (owned by Universal) reruns all of current season's episodes 2 weeks after NBC. That suggest that if NBC holds anything over Wolf Studio's and Universal, it's not more than 2 weeks.
I do agree with your basic point, though. Both NBC and USA rerun the season in the summer, and get great ratings for them. So, it's not in either company's best interest to release the set before the new season starts.

;D I did mention that it was a bit complicated. I'm not sure I'd be able to figure it all out (much less translate the legalese) if I did have their contract in front of me.
I didn't forget about USA, though, the difference between them and NBC is that USA isn't a broadcast station -- strictly cable/satellite. While the distinction doesn't matter at all to most folks, it makes a huge difference in "TV land," and seriously affects contracts for shows as well as advertising media buys (which is the area of the industry where I've got the most experience).
ETA: The biggest difference between cable/broadcast that matters to the discussion at hand is that broadcast networks still have most of the "money leverage" -- the industry is changing, but for the most part that's where the revenue and the clout still are.

This is just weird... Law & Order: Criminal Intent - The most recent L&O: CI season comes to DVDPosted by David Lambert 6/01/2004
September 7th will see a wave of Law & Order releases, as all three popular series from Dick Wolf see DVD season sets arrive. However, instead of continuing in order from the beginning, Universal Studios Home Video has elected to bring out the recently completed seasons instead, from the 2003-2004 broadcast year. For Law & Order: Criminal Intent, that means that The Complete 3rd Season will arrive at a $59.98 suggested retail price, with all 21 episodes on a 3-DVD set (each will be a double-sided disc). Why jump seasons to bring out just the latest? The studio hasn't spoken up about this, nor has Dick Wolf, but we suspect that the goal here is to hit with these while the marketing for the newest episodes are fresh on the consumers' minds, and try to lead into the next season which will be starting up in that fall timeframe. We'll try to find out if our thinking is correct, or if something else is at work here. No further details are available this early, but stay tuned! We'll bring you updates on this - and cover art, too - as the studio releases more information about this.
Link to this page: www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=1615

H-m-m--maybe there's a conspiracy to keep the Nicole/Elizabeth episodes off the DVD Market?
This makes no sense to me, but maybe that's why I drive a two-year-old Cavalier and not a BMW.

What the..... I will definitely buy it but why not release season 2 first Dick would know that there are loyal CI viewers who will buy any box set released. I bought season 1 from Amazon because we are a bit behind the times here in Australia when it comes to TV shows. Season 3 is currently being shown here and from what I have seen so far, season 2 is better. oh well, I better start saving my pennies ;D
