I would really hate to see Jamey Sheridan leave--he's so terrific at playing Deakins, a good character--but of course it's his decision/contract. I find it odd that we haven't heard so much talk of him leaving and/or the replacement, normally you hear a month or so in advance. Sigh, either way, I hope they don't screw it up.
As to Barek/Logan getting the finale, I personally prefer Eames/Goren so I'm disappointed, but not mad. If G/E got the season opener, then it's fair and even that B/L get the conclusion. And the writers/production team, unfortunately, still have to prove to the fans that Logan and Barek are equal members of the team. They might have come up with the two-team split to ease the burden on D'Onofrio (and, by extension, Erbe), but the characters are not substitutes or inferiors. I think they're trying to beat it into the audience's heads that "They're not the same, but they're part of the family, and we're not gonna treat 'em like dirt out of spiteful loyalty to the originals." I'm glad to see them getting good scripts and equal time.

Found this at tv.com.......From this it looks like a two parter with two separate story lines....
Then again mabey I should read it again....tomorrow.....time for bed I hope you guys can make heads or tails out of it.
9:00 p.m.: Law & Order: Criminal Intent Two-hour fifth-season finale When a church worker is found dead after the latest in a series of arson-fueled fires, Detectives Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Eames (Kathryn Erbe) trace evidence back to the dysfunctional family of one sanctuary's youth leader (guest star Josh Hamilton). Just as pressing is the personal matter weighing on Captain Deakins (Jamey Sheridan), whose intervention on behalf of one detective prompts a vengeful cop already in prison to launch a vendetta to oust him. After a suburban couple is found bludgeoned to death, Detectives Logan (Chris Noth) and Barek (Annabella Sciorra) suspect that the couple's drug-troubled son Kevin (guest star Kevin Nobbs) killed his parents for their cash stash. But when a local investigator pressures the kid into a confession, the city cops discover a conflict of interest. While another suspect with close business ties to the victims emerges, Captain Deakins (Jamey Sheridan) urges Logan and Barek to drop the non-jurisdictional case--and ponders his own future with the NYPD. Courtney B. Vance also stars. (Source: NBC press release)

Oh Techguy, bite your tongue! Now you have to go outside, turn around three times and spit to avoid the wrath of the thing and keep from jinxing it. They gave Nicole the season premiere with Goren/Eames, and a key unseen role for "Slither", enough is enough! (And I mean that in every possible way.) --Catbird Just so you know Catbird, I didn't bite my tongue, but I did go outside, turned around three times and spit. And while I was at it, I rubbed the belly of my mini Buddha and gave my worry beads a good going over for good measure. No sense tempting fate.
It must have worked because the Unmentionable One was a no-show, although I could have done with better plot development and characters for the two episodes on Sunday.
