FYI, I'm told the script was inspired by the Russian practice of charging tourists $25K to cruise on an armored freighter off Somalia and shoot pirates who approach the ship. CI co-creator/developer Rene Balcer suggested the storyline.
Showrunner Walon Green is the teleplay's author.

So this episode does have something to do with Somalia, as I discovered when I Googled the title.
AL, I'm curious too. Do you know anything specific, have your sources revealed who in the cast, if any, were present on Friday and who might be on set on Monday?
The silence is not only deafening, it raises questions about what might be going on behind the scenes out of sight of the cameras and out of earshot of the microphones.

A (very) slight update on this episode:
- There will be few exterior shots and all planned at present are on or just off Staten Island. So the opportunity for fans to see the actors at work is limited.
- The script contains an elaborate Somali wedding scene.
Which brings me to this question: What is NYC Major Case doing in Africa?

Casting call for "Puntland, Part 2" -- the final Goren-Eames-Ross episode.
We know someone dies but who do we think is going to jail? (See the note about the character from Internal Affairs.)
AL ---------------------- PUNTLAND, Episode 9.02 LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT
GLORIA JUSTIN, 50s-60s. FEMALE. Dean of Arts at NYU. Questioned by members of the MCS. She fondly remembers a former charismatic arts student who had “a very unique world view.”
DEPUTY COMMISSIONER TURNER, 50s, MALE, AFRICAN AMERICAN. Distinguished and poised, the commissioner has called a member of the MCS into his office to deliver some big news.
BIANCA TORELLI, 40s. FEMALE. Along with the Deputy Commissioner, she has been sent from Internal Affairs to deliver some big news to a member of the MCS.
TOM PILEGGI, 60s. MALE. An attorney escorting his innocent client who’s accused of being linked with piracy and arms trafficking, through a mob of reporters.
REPORTER, 30s. MALE/FEMALE. Part of a large crowd of press clamoring to get answers from an accused criminal, this reporter gets a question in.

Oh, that's a big question Annabelle so I'll go out on a limb -
I think it's Ross going to jail otherwise Goren wouldn't be able to return to MC. Yet, there is also an attorney escorting an innocent client...could be Goren! This could link to the Dean of Arts being asked questions about a charismatic ex-student - definitely Goren.

I'm going with Goren too. Much more dramatic punch than Ross -- a final scene with our detective climbing down those monumental Centre Street courthouse steps, surrounded by press, now the perp rather than the police escort.
How about he's cleared in a future, made-for-TV CI movie?

You kill me, MJ. Now how do I get that picture of Goren & Logan out of my head. ;D
Goren is accused and then cleared at the end of the show. That's why it takes two hours. They have to dump yet a final load of grief and angst on our poor Bobby, don't they? God forbid they make him happy.
Funny - I thought the art student with the world view was Nichols. He's in this episode too, right?

That's a scene (with CN and VDO) I'd pay to see, MJ!
DJ, since the casting call (above) is for the second of the two-parter I'm speculating that there's isn't enough air time to clear Goren in "Puntland." We see him going off to Riker's island -- an innocent man -- and fade to black.
BTW, that's the meaning of "Puntland" as an episode title. Puntland is an autonomous state within Somalia whose leaders nevertheless are not seeking independence from Somalia. Apply that to VDO/Goren. Separate and autonomous but not seeking complete independence.
With Goren headed to jail to await trial the stage is then set for Goren's return (and dramatic vindication) later in Season 9 (or, as I said, in a TV movie, a la the "Exiled" Mike Logan.)
Cruel, perhaps. But I do believe USA would leave us all hanging that way.
PC, get out your bat. ;-)
