Allie, I wrote on the promo thread that the hands, IMO, look like Eames hands. They are small, but work worn and the hands on an older woman. And the person is wearing an all black jacket, just as Eames is during the promo scenes. As you mentioned, the badge number is hers as well.
So let's assume that she resigns. What we don't know is if that takes her out of contention for also getting killed? She could resign before the explosion?
Another theory. Someone (the FBI) wants Goren out of the way, so they rig the SUV up with explosives. But they only succeed in killing Eames. Unlikely scenario, but at this rate, we really can't discount anything.

I also think the person's hands are Eames, but when I blew the picture up on my computer it shows the first two numbers are 87. Doesn't her badge number start with a 5? The other numbers were to blury from being enlarged for me to make out. I really hope its not Eames

Much is being made of whose hands we see in the promo clip, placing what seems to be Eames' badge on the desk. How do we know they are her hands, by that I mean Kathryn Erbe's? On the USA board someone posted a screen cap of what's supposed to be Eames' hands in "Blind Spot" to compare to the hands in the promo clip. How do we know that's the case? I ask because unless the camera pans directly from Eames/KE's face down to the hands, we can't be sure they are hers. It could be a "body double" in the shots in both scenes. Wasn't there a similar situation in the movie "Happy Accidents" in the scene where Vincent D'Onofrio strokes the leg of Marisa Tomei, and it turns out it wasn't his hand and/or her leg in the shot?
The mystery of the hands is, to me, a part of the red herring that USA could be dangling in front of us to mislead us into thinking something might be going on that won't turn out the way we expect. That's why, unlike Macbeth, I'm taking the clues from the USA 3 witches with a huge grain of salt. Something foul might be brewing in the USA promo cauldron.

Techguy, You make some very good points! The entire promo could be a "red herring"

We said "Previews lie" when we saw the previews for "Purgatory"--turned out they were pretty much accurate. So I think we can trust the promos a little more now.
What do you guys think of the idea that the writers don't care about the sendoff near as much as the fans do?

Angua, regarding the send-off: That's exactly what I'm thinking! I truly hope the writers understand how important a worthy send-off is to all the Goren and Eames fans.

Angua, I believe that there isn't anyone currently invested enough (showrunners and scriptwriters) on the show with the characters of Goren and Eames to care one wit about how they leave or how the fans feel. If Rene Balcer or Warren Leight were still there, I would feel better. Neither one would kill off Goren or Eames. I can't see Gina Gionfridda, Charles Rubin, Diana Son or any of the other seasoned (and gone) writers doing it as well. But with this new group.......who can be trusted?

But with this new group.......who can be trusted? No one. That's why I'm hoping for the best but expecting--and preparing for--the worst.

Okay, but allow me to play Devil's Advocate here. The seasoned writers we know and love were once new to us, weren't they? I remember I ddin't trust Charlie Rubin at first, or Warren Leight. Maybe these new writers will rise to the occasion. But not Antoinette Stella, whom I call Princess Post-it because she shouldn't have been allowed to write Post-it notes let alone whole episodes. At any rate (sorry for the rant) it's not just that our heroes have to be sent off well, the episode had also better be a damn well-written one as well. I wish Stephanie Sengupta were writing it!

Well I do remember VDO saying at one point after filming that the way they wrote out G and E was 'very clever', so - if he was being genuine and not just gracious - there's got to be at least some redeeming value to it. I took from what he said that he felt it wasn't a 'punt' on the part of the writers, despite the (previous) title. Sorry for the pun(t).

The other thing is, we have to think - if they ARE being tricksy - who are they trying to trick with the preview? The few hundred thousand or million people who will watch it and not give it a second thought? The few thousand serious CI fans who will watch it closely enough to TRY to figure out what they're trying to tell us, or the fifty or so die-hard fans who will second-guess all the second guessers? I mean, the preview has been out for a few days at least, and it's only been watched 300 times on Twittvid, and I know I've watched it about 25 times, so who else has been watching it? I really wonder if the NBCU PTB are actually speaking to us - the tinfoil hat bunch - or if they're happy to know that the majority of the people, even the serious CI fans, who watch the preview will think it's Ross who's resigning.

And finally (and this is my final post on the topic tonight) if there's nobody left among TPTB who cares about the serious CI fans (and I'm not sure I believe it), why would they bother trying to trick us with a thrice-misleading preview?
And FWIW, I still think it's possible, even likely, that Eames or even Goren will die (despite what VDO said). I am only offering my opinion on the motivations of the makers of the preview and what they hoped to accomplish with it, not trying to justify a particular POV of the actual plot. Keep in mind that the purpose of previews is to make money, not to titillate or mollify rabid fans who make up a tiny decimal of a percentage point of their typical viewership.

Excellent points all, anchoress. I especially agree that TPTB will be catering to the majority of viewers, not to the handful of die hard, hardcore groupies like us, with what finally results in the preview. The preview's purpose is not only to tie up the loose end of the Goren/Eames/Ross dynamic, but especially to endear those million or so viewers to the new crew - Nichols/Burrows/ MEM as Captain. Therefore, my guess is that the last half of the premier will mostly showcase these three solving the crime of who killed either Ross or Eames. Probably not Goren - I have to believe that TPTB wouldn't be that crazy!

Just remember--TPTB don't really care about the viewers, but on how many they can get and how much money they can spend.

Still.....killing Goren would be foolhardy. It would alienate most of the long time viewers. Besides, VDO said he wasn't the one who was getting killed off. I don't see him out and out lying about that. The hands placing Eames possessions on the desk. Some posters at the USA site believe they may belong to MEM (the new Captain). If that's true - the news is truly horrible. We still have no idea when MEM is joining the show. Is it during the premier? There are no promo pics with her in them, and you would think there would be at least one.
