WELL YES Vinnie d, Katie will be missed,....8 years... but Jeff and saffron and Mary Elisabeth are pretty impressive together scripts are good spirits are high. different actors could make a damn good show and the way i see it very good ..not putting words in anyones mouth but the new loci is looking good!

Would anyone watch House without House? No.
CI without Goren and Eames?. A definite no for me.

Pointing out the obvious difference, L&O: CI isn't titled 'Goren & Eames' or even 'Goren'

Indeed. CI was never intended by developer Rene Balcer to focus on the emotional and intellectual life of one NYC Major Case detective. It wasn't created around Vincent D'Onofrio. Rather the show lunged into that direction under Warren Leight.
Balcer's concept of "criminal intent" is a strong one that, over the years, has been "borrowed" by a number of TV producers for their own drama series. IMO it's got a lot of gas left; that's why I'm looking forward to Season 9.

I thought it was created around a lead, and DW knew he wanted Vincent from the start.

My understanding is that Mr. D'Onofrio's performance somewhat hijacked the original concept of LOCI.

Actually there seems to be different stories about this. I know in a recent interview Rene Balcer stated what Patcat posted, but I just got done watching one of the extras on a DVD set and several different people said the show was suppose to revolve around the Robert Goren character. Katherine Erbe in the interview stated it was described to her as a Holmes and Watson show with her being Watson and Dick Wolf commented on how wonderful Erbe was with giving exposition because you can't have the lead (D'Onofrio) giving exposition. Courtney B. Vance also mentioned that the show was revolving around Vincent which Vincent didn't seem to think was right. So it seems that different people at different times have different opinions about it. I am just glad that Erbe was eventually recognized by most as being just as important to the show as D'Onofrio. I don't think you could have one without the other.

I think you could. At any rate this cougar will need a new scratching post.

I can't say if CI was hijacked or not, but one thing is certain, there's going to be a changing of the guard. I understand and respect those who can't or won't accept these changes, and I acknowledge that the manner in which the changes have been implemented has been bungled. But speaking for myself, I'm going to give the show a chance, to see what Jeff Goldblum does with his character Zach Nichols and whether the entire cast jells and integrates into the CI fabric and the L&O franchise overall, before I give the new look CI a thumbs up or thumbs down.
