I'm sorry but I did not enjoy Goldblum's performances in the first few episodes he starred in and and stopped watching on his week's; which was sad as I missed Wheeler...and I had always liked Goldblum before so I EXPECTED to enjoy him..but I DIDN'T! I was ok with the Mike Logan charactor even though I missed seeing Goren on those opposite weeks..I stayed with it and never missed an episode..UNTIL season 8..I watched 3 of Goldblums shows and stopped.
Whether they meant it to be centered around the main charactors or not it ended up that way and I just do not see CI working without Goren and Eames!
No Goren and Eames, no me..

I agree to an extend, Mayanne. to me, JG and the episodes with him became suddenly watchable wehen they teamed him up with KE. they had good chemistry and the epis were well written. Sigh, I guess I would watch KE with everyone, but I'm not sure if I will watch anyone without KE.
I used to really like Nicols and Wheeler, but just not together.

I feel really sad for Jeff. I am sure he did not sign on for getting on a sinking ship. My own feelings are that this will be LOCI's last season. Jeff is a wonderful actor, so it is not a reflection of his abilities. The cast change is just too dramatic for it's survival. If Jeff had been there longer, maybe it would have worked.
I like Jeff's character. The Goren/Eames/Ross chemistry is gonna be missed. I am afraid I won't watch much after the beginning. I came to this show because of Vincent. He does make it for me, with him gone....well I probably will be too.

Hm, on this side of the pond we only know JG from the Big Screen. I liked his episodes so far, even though I am actually a Goren-Fan and cannot imagine the show without him. Plus, I agree that the cast change is very dramatic. It would have been wiser to replace the one at a time and not make such a big cut. I had the impression that Nichols was written as "Goren light" and am eager to find out how the show will be going without The Original.
I am not sure, however, that he entered a sinking ship. I believe this is what the responsible people want us to believe by messing up the last season (weak scripts, lousy stories, out-of-order-broadcasting) as thouroughly as possible.
I am sure the writers are very well capable of delivering good scripts (again) and the people in charge do have a vivid interest to make JG successful to show they did the right thing with letting everybody else go.... and to present JG as the White Knight who saved the show.
Now that "my" CI is gone, I am kind of looking forward to the new version. Maybe I'll like it....

This is a very intriguing observation. There are capable writers for the show (they just didn't end up writing most of the G&E shows). I do believe your point that they want to prove to the audience that they made the right move with their cast changes and want the show to be successful. It will be interesting to see how they promote the show. They didn't do much to promote the show last season once they missed the November air date. USA spent $10 million to promote White Collar according to a NYT article so I will be interested to see how hard they promote the new version of L&O. White Collar comes in around 5 million + viewers per episode I think. These numbers are about 1 million higher than L & O got last season. I think someone said that the JG episodes drew in more viewers than the VDO/KE episodes last season, but I thought that except for a couple of episodes, VDO/KE episodes had more viewers, even given the bad writing, episodes out of order, etc.

Despite the title of this thread the conversation still tilts to G/E. Telling in itself.....

Given the recent hullabaloo over Leno and O'Brien - well just look at NBCU's track record.
And if those really good writers deliver really good scripts to "prove" TPTB made the "right" decision - then it was really all about shoving Vincent and Kathryn out the door. Which flies in the face of all the press releases, doesn't it???
I don't care what they do now. They have ruined the show for me forever. One day I will catch up with Nichols in syndication and I hope I can stand to watch the episodes. NBCU is a non-entity for me these days.
I'm relegated to CI reruns, lots of movie watching, and getting in my Forensic Files and CSI fix whenever I can. I've been watching Bones lately, too, though the dance of the clay-footed swans is getting on my last nerve. Either put Brennan and Booth together or forget the whole thing. It's getting SO tedious.
