I think JG did get more publicity and better scripts. I don't think you can blame old timers for having a hard time accepting the news, maybe not wanting to move on, at least not yet. I never watched Andy Griffith in color either. ;D

If you wanted to discuss the new season, then threads should have been opened long ago and even a thread about JG could have been ongoing. I look at this as the responsibility of those who want to discuss these topics and pursue these matters of interest to them. For whatever reason, those members interested in these topics did not do so. Please feel free to develop these threads for whatever purpose you desire and to draw in as many new members as you can. I am intrigued that opening the can of worms has not elicited more of the sentiment AL describes, which is what I had expected. It is interesting the different perspectives that members have on this. I have very definitely felt that I am not wanted because I am a fan of Robert Goren and have no desire to watch the show without him. Apparently JG fans feel the same way for their character.
…“the whatever reason” for this particular Jeff fan was out of amity with the Vincent/Kathryn/Eric fans. It would have been very crass of me, when the news broke, to continue posting articles/news (non-LO:CI and LO:CI) pertaining to Jeff and – believe me – there have been many. I made a couple of solidairty comments in the appropriate thread and then made a tactical retreat out of respect of my fellow posters. I can assure you that Annabelle has shown great perception in capturing the sentiments of many posters - why do you think the board is REALLY so "quiet". "Apparently JG fans" - apparently is the operative word - this particular one does not and neither do the other Jeff fans with whom I discuss LO:CI. And this fits exactly with Annabelle's point about this forum not turning into a mausoleum. I know for a fact that at least some Jeff Goldblum fans do not feel welcome here, precisely because of all of the weeping and gnashing of teeth over the departed actors (particularly VDO.) Why would anyone interested in Season 9 join a site with so many posts pronouncing "The show is over"? In addition, if anyone cares to look back into the archives at posts made when Goldblum was first cast, there were definitely members who took a "VDO vs. JG" attitude. Goldblum is getting all of the publicity! He's getting the better scripts! Etc.
First paragraph - FACT. Second paragraph – when I joined this forum, one of my very early comments was to remind certain posters that this was a forum for the show and not one particular actor. Of course, Zach is my favourite detective but that did not exclude me from buying Seasons One and Two dvd boxsets, sitting down and watching them, taking time to write episode reviews for the WHOLE show, including Chris episodes, doing catch-up of all the seasons. ---- No-one knows how Season Nine is going to pan out – there are no such things as crystal balls that see into the future. I obviously enjoy posting on this forum and, of course, there is the pre-dominance of Vincent fans - eight years - but the show is changing and Annabelle should be applauded for trying to take the forum forward with the show - there will always be Robert Goren, Alex Eames and Captain Ross just as there has always been Deakins and Carver. The discussion should not be about who is going to post what and where or even the longevity of this forum - it should be about taking it forward with cast members past and present which is, after all, Annabelle's aim. Jeffan, your entire post was spot on. I respect your opinion as the sole JG fan who musters up the courage to come here. I'm amazed that Robert Goren fans feel unwelcome here. As a Robert Goren fan, I feel extremely at home here voicing my love of the character and my sadness that he is leaving.

I am reinstating this thread without having modified too much. I just don't have the time at the moment. However, I have deleted the OT posts. I take exception to the notion that members who no longer post on the episode threads or matters relating to CI are not welcome on the forum. There are many who have become friends and choose to stay, as a means of keeping in touch. Or discussing other topics and shows. Carry on. ETA: QFA started this topic with the efforts to save G & E. No more off topic discussions.

Oh, good! We're back! Although we may not be able to save them, we are still able to express our appreciation: Ever since someone suggested a binder, it's been an idea that wouldn't rest in my mind. So I'm putting this idea out into the world This is only a survey to see if there is any interest. Proposed: People send in one page of letter/thoughts/artwork (saying a simple thank you or wax poetic) which be assembled in binders and will be sent to the actors. If there is enough interest we will go ahead with it (choosing binders, setting up a mailing address, donations if needed), if not... The survey is here! It's just a quick simple one. It will be there for 3 days. You can answer yes or no to any part of it. www.kwiksurveys.com/online-survey.php?surveyID=LBEMH_21bd6522

I second DonnaJo's comments and also thank Jeffan for a spot on insightful post.
Interesting term, tactical retreat, and I certainly can relate. I have done a bit of it myself, especially lately, since I feel reluctant to express any enthusiasm or excitement about Season 9 out of deference to other members who are still hurting, angry and frustrated about the cast changes. I haven't posted as much as I have in the past, and generally have avoided even reading any of the threads, except superficially, because I feel the negative vibes in many of the posts and just didn't want to have to deal with it.
There is a lot of anti-JG vibe going on, which is understandable given the current circumstances. But this negative vibe is nothing new. I noticed it back in the day when Chris Noth was brought on board to alternate with the G/E episodes. If I remember correctly, there was complaining even then--more so on other boards but there was some of it here too--that somehow G/E was being shortchanged, and there was a lot of venting about how CI should be only about G/E, never mind why CN was brought on in the first place. There was also a decided effort to categorize the G/E team as THE A TEAM and L/? THE B TEAM, as if there were some sort of hierarchy of value or quality based not on the merits of the episodes themselves, but because of who were in the episodes. Also if I remember correctly, I went through a tactical retreat then too, backing off on posting because of the US vs. THEM vibes that permeated some of our discussions. Eventually most members adapted and we all settled in for the ride. Now we are at a crossroads, and each of us has to decide whether or not to continue the ride.
Having said that, I want to emphasize that this site is about CI the show. If some members don't feel comfortable posting about Season 9 for whatever reason, if they don't watch the show anymore or just don't want to express themselves, they are still definitely welcome here, at least by me. There have been and always will be members who mostly lurk or post sparingly on threads that interest them. This was true even before the latest cast changes. My view of a community is a meeting place where people come and go and participate at whatever level or extent that suits them, which can vary from person to person and time to time. Some are more involved than others, and there will be times when someone might not want to join in and be absent for a while. A community isn't static, it's always in flux, which is the state of CI itself right now. Maybe, just maybe, some members who aren't ready to watch CI Season 9 might relent and peek in, if only out of curiosity--or not. That's OK, the welcome mat is always out no matter what. There are other threads and topics that will appeal, to maintain a connection to this community and enable it to move on and thrive. At least, that is my hope, and plan to do my part to make it so.

The CI Binder Project has lift-off! Visit the blog savinggorenandeamesnow.blogspot.com/and take the survey! 28 people have already taken it today - and yes, there are votes for the manila folder!!! I laugh everytime I see that someone has chosen it! (although, I'm pretty sure it won't come to that.... ) The PO Box should be set up in a couple of days and it will be on the blog. And I'm sure I'll make it back here to let you know. Just a reminder that you don't have to contribute $ to send in a submission, but it would be appreciated! We've had our very first donation (besides us!) which is AWESOME! There will be more information on formats you can send in soon. I'm trying to think of all the questions before it goes on the blog. Start planning your page!!

The details of the Binder Project are now on the Blog!savinggorenandeamesnow.blogspot.com/ The survey is closed, but we have a good idea what we'll be getting if funds allow. We already have some awesome donations and email submissions. Too sweet. This will be an awesome tribute. I'm acknowledging email submissions as they arrive. (I'm good at checking my junk mail) I'm sure Susan will try to acknowledge snail mail submissions if there is an email address included.

In case you been glued to the Season 9 Promo videos and can see nothing else (I wouldn't be surprised! Me, too!) we have the binders in hand as well as some very fun accessories for each binder. You can see a sneak peak slide show here; savinggorenandeamesnow.blogspot.com/More letters! We need more! Don't forget we've extended the deadline to April 15 for submissions. We're thinking you'll get passionate and need to write to express your sorrow/regret/thanks/love once you've seen the Goren & Eames finale. (The total finale for me, it's over when they're gone....) And hey, if you can think of any accessories for Ross' binder, let us know!

Some inspiration for letter writing...or simply a reminder of what made LOCI so precious to so many of us. Call it The Best of Goren and Eames: Part 1. Thanks to my friends QFC, Tjara and Havers for contributing to my cap collection for this one.
