Has anyone heard anything about this new medical show that premiers on Fox on Nov. 16? I've heard that the main character is a Sherlock Holmes type that has a unique way of solving medical mysteries with brilliant, quirky deductions and methods? Stars a British actor, Hugh Laurie in the lead. An Australian, Jesse Spence is also featured. Sounds like it might be interesting.

It looks interesting, and I'll give it a try. Laurie is best known for his comic work--he worked with Stephen Fry in a comedy sketch program for the BBC and was the father in the STUART LITTLE films--but I've always thought he'd make a good Holmes. And the fine American actor Robert Sean Leonard is in it as well.
Bryan Singer, director of the X-MEN movies, is one of the forces behind it.

Hugh Laurie also starred in the UK hit, MI-5. His character, Jules, was my favorite part of the first season. I stopped watching the show when A&E kept screwing with the air dates. I was also annoyed by their little promos that flashed constantly on the bottom of the screen.
I HATE the ones NBC uses, too. They are distracting and obscure the view of the characters and set. One of the ads that popped up for Crossing Jordan last week nearly blocked KE's entire face.

Medical Investigation on NBC I have watched ..... I HATE the fricking lighting ..... they were in a BLACK room with a fricking spot light on the autopsie table.
REALLY NOW. That is too dramatic and totally unnecessary. But I like to watch all that stuff as I do some of it & it is cool to see the tools I use on the show. But come on, I know the story line has to be unreal for TV land purposes - but that lighting? bluck.

After seeing the first episode, I'd say it has promise. The character of House is fascinating, and Laurie is very good. The rest of the show still needs to come together, and it may be too much like too many other shows, notably the CSIs.
I'm not optimistic about its chances, largely because it has a bad time slot and it's on Fox. Fox hasn't had a good drama since the X-FILES, and it doesn't have a good record of supporting its shows. Although it is giving ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT a chance.

If anyone is interested (and, as I wrote, I think the show is worth a look), Fox is repeating the first episode tonight (Friday, the 19th) at 8 pm EST.

I'm going to rewatch it tonight, and pay more attention. The line from House in regards to spending time visiting the patient or finding a cure was interesting.

It's a good thing that House is such a brilliant doctor. He certainly wouldn't get anywhere with that attitude. Gotta love him, though. ;D And Hugh Laurie is certainly brilliant in it. I hope Fox doesn't cancel it before it has had a chance

I caught an episode of this by accident a few weeks ago, and I’m hooked! Found myself quite disappointed when there wasn’t one this week. Next new ep is something like the 25th. There’s already an avid (or should I say rabid) fan base, posting on the Fox website forum, and I believe Fox has ordered another 8 eps, in addition to the initial 13.
I wouldn’t say it’s a Criminal Intent wannabe, but I don’t think it would have been bought by a network before Criminal Intent broke the ground. Quirky does not begin to describe House... and yet, as the description that Leonore posted suggests, there are many ways this show is reminiscent of Criminal Intent.
I would pity anyone who had to work for House, or supervise him... but damn, the show is fun to watch! And though I don’t have the extent of knowledge to fact-check it in detail, I have to say they haven’t made any stupid errors that I’ve seen – and a couple of solutions have been both brilliant and factually sound.

Well, amazingly enough, FOX has renewed HOUSE for the rest of the season. I think it would fit much better on NBC, but it is one of the few shows doing well on Fox. And I think the supporting cast is getting more to do and doing it very well. It is an addictive show.

Thanks for the renewal information, Patcat. The Canadian channel is repeating The Socratic Method tomorrow night. No episode on FOX until next week, January 25th, when the new episode Poison will air. So, anyone remember HL from his Blackadder days?!

I love BLACKADDER! Laurie was also superb as Bertie Wooster in the JEEVES AND WOOSTER series that starred his long time collaborator Stephen Fry as Jeeves.

I LOVE House! I was hooked from the first episode! I love how he pulls NO punches with his team members, and even though he should be slapped for his comments, I love how he has some point behind his tirades. Like when he told the girl why he hired her...based on her looks, but he liked that she didn't take the easy way out of hard work. I have to say I'm pleasently surprised that FOX renewed it, they needed something since X-Files. And House is a welcome addition to my TV roster.

I seem to recall Dr. Connor et al solving a similar medical mystery on Medical Investigation early on, either the second or third episode. In that, the girls' illness was caused by pants as well. The episode was okay, except for the Dr. Sexy Beard parts with Shirley Knight. Quite enjoyed those! ;D
