I watch House but I would rather see House taken down a few notches than see CI canceled over the new American Idol fueled House. Well next week (February 6) it's the new Goren/Eames episode "Albatross." If ever there was an opportunity for CI to take "House" down a few notches, this is the time. One problem for Fox, if you could call it that, is that "House" has been and will continue to be preempted by extended editions of "Idol." It is skedded, for example, to sit on the bench for the last two Tuesdays of the February sweep. On the other hand, no Tuesday repeats of "House" will air through May, and the net may have the luxury of airing original episodes of the show on other nights to use its full-season order before the end of the season. Question about point #1--does it mean the Goren/Eames episode "Brother's Keeper" on February 17 will be opposite an extended "American Idol" instead of "House"? Question about point #2--does it mean that after February, only original "House" episodes will air opposite CI on Tuesday nights through May?

Last night's episode was only the 12th episode of the season. Season 2 had 24 episodes.
If there are also 24 episodes in Season 3, then it may well be all new episodes from March to May. There will be other extended versions of AI if some may air on different nights?

Well, my apologies if this is a little simplistic, but I thought that episode was just....lame. The rape victim seemed VERY contrived to me, nothing but a vehicle to teach us something new about House. Bleh. Though I did love the little bit with House and Wilson going back and forth and suddenly Wilson asks, "Are we role playing? Because I don't want to be you!" Amen, Wilson. Overall, I tried this show out when it first started, and didn't like it. Gave it another try due to my love of Hugh Laurie and Robert Sean Leonard...got into it a little bit, but it just consistently disappoints me. I'm sure I'll still catch reruns, but in the future if a new one is up against a CI rerun, I think I'll opt for the CI rerun.

Brothers Keeper will air against the last hour of American Idol. This is my opinion but I think L&O:CI can hold up better against American Idol than it can against House and now "American Idol Fueled House" I like NCIS but one of the reasons that it does well against American Idol is the fact that it is the only drama that airs in the 8 p.m. hour. The same is true for Criminal Minds on Wednesdays since even Lost has been away and it will be moved to 10 p.m. when it does return on Feb. 7.
It may mean that since House has about 10 episodes to air between March and May, that it will air on other nights-- probably Thursdays or Wednesdays or Sundays. Maybe there are going to be more 2 hour American Idol episodes that air on Tuesdays between March and May. L&O:CI on the other hand will have only 6 episodes to air between March and May.
P.S. As for the Jan. 30 episode I felt it was a story device to get House to admit abuse. The best thing about the episode as usual was Hugh Laurie's acting. I liked the way the abuse angle was handled with Mike Logan on both the mothership and L&O:CI and with Stabler on SVU much better than the way it was handled on this episode. It would have been more believable if House was a psychologist or profiler like Fitz on Cracker or Tony on Wire In The Blood or Skoda or Olivet on L&Os. I would have liked it better if House was sent to a psychologist or psychiatrist by Cuddy and then after a few sessions admits to abuse. This character could be like Dr. Kroger on Monk.

I agree that generally, "abuse"angles are really lame, and usually over the top. With abuse as a vehicle to get the audience on House's side again, the whole thing could have been terribly cliched.. but I don't think it was, because 1. House was actually acting as a human being for once (regardless of the abuse thing) so I was ready to care about him at the end of the episode 2. Hugh Laurie was really, really good at pulling it off. I don't know what he does, but he must be doing something great because I think SarahIvy's right- the victim herself seemed contrived and melodramatic. In the very beginning, when she flips her hair really hard and stares at him (letting us all know she was raped, I guess), it was SO corny how the camera focused on her squinting for about 30 seconds. There were a lot of moments like that, and I actually didn't feel for her at all. She made no sense, and seemed weirdly perky.... it's not really the actress's fault, I think, because the writing for her was terrible- I actually don't have any idea what she wanted, for one.. but maybe some of it IS the actress, because we didn't really know House's motivation either, and Hugh Laurie still made it work..... OH WELL. I thought, for the requisite "abuse" story that every show seems to think they need to do now, this one was def. one of the better examples. And I enjoyed this episode as good entertainment, which is the most important thing.

Thanks for the informed opinion Filmnoir5. I agree, I think CI is much better served if "American Idol" is the competition rather than "House." At least CI will get AI opposite it for the third and fourth week of sweeps, so it will be interesting to compare what it does vs. the first two weeks in February opposite "House."

This is wishful thinking but stranger things have happened than FOX tinkering with the schedule and trying out House on one of their loser nights like Thursdays this spring so it could air at 8 p.m. and precede another new FOX show or they could try it out on Sundays. I think Mondays are out of the question due to 24 having to air about 18 episodes between now and mid May. I hope something like this happens since I really like CI and SVU as a 2 hour block.

I enjoyed House last night, seems I always thought House and Cutty had a thing for each other. Wow and House willing to cripple a patient to get himself pain free. Wilson knows his friend very well.

Brothers Keeper will air against the last hour of American Idol. This is my opinion but I think L&O:CI can hold up better against American Idol than it can against House and now ;American Idol Fueled House Yes, you're right. It's quite a different audience for American Idol than the ones who'll choose to watch LO:ci. I don't think it will do well in its slot against idol though. Idol's numbers are impressive and reach across many demographics. It's not just teeny boppers. Having said that I'm someone who's probably going watch AI and tape the next LO:ci episode. I admit I'm a big reality tv watcher. There's something about watching Idol contestants fighting for their creative lives that is quite cheesy and fake and then sometimes endearingly heartfelt. There are some surprisingly talented women this season. Outside of LO;ci the only other ones I watch is the BC-filmed Supernatural and Heroes and, of course LO:ci. LO:ci's the only one I tape, and I get more out the viewing by taping and re-watching (at least when the plots were satisfyingly complex) than by seeing it distractedly on a work night. That's the beauty of serial tv andwhy LO:ci does so well in syndication I guess. But it might also be it's Achilles' heel since, as outsider said, technology is moving rapidly but not nutty TV exec's love of Nielsen.

Like Sirenna, I also watch American Idol. It's the only reality show I enjoy, because the talent is impressive. However, I tape AI and view CI live (& I also tape CI on my DVR). I couldn't bear knowing a new CI was on & not watch it live, especially if it was a Goren & Eames episode.
