Happy Birthday to all September people!
Public Service Announcement: if you have a Honda Accord or Civic, lock up and get a burglar alarm. Mine got stolen from our driveway!!! on Sunday night while I was home for the holiday. As was my father's Ford 4-runner--and normally car thieves don't go after SUV, but since they had to move his to get to mine, figured they might as well take it. And yes, they were locked. The registration and CDs were dumped at a nearby gas station (somebody called to return it). THe policeman was surprised, as he's never seen people take two from the same driveway.
So Mom (the only one who still had a car, and hers was damaged) had to drive me back to school today. Fortunately there wasn't much in mine, but no telling when I'll be able to drive again. I am decidedly not pleased with the situation.
Other than that rather sucky Labor Day, I did enjoy being home with family again. Sorry to rant, but just a heads up about primo targets. Lock, alarm, and leave your lights on.

Sorry to hear about your car Catbird, aside from all the inconvenience, its a violation to have your private property messed with. I do not have an alarm in my car, thieves ignore them anyway, what I do have is a manual transmission and a geeky car

Thanks for the wakeup call Catbird. I am notorious for leaving my car unlocked in my driveway AND leaving my keys hanging in the ignition. I'm afraid I've gotten way too "comfortable" living in my quiet suburban neighborhood. I should stop being so naive before I wake up to find my car missing.

So sorry catbird! Thank TGL that no one was hurt. The bad guys tend to shoot and destroy around here.

That's just it! I live in a quiet, safe, comfortable suburban neighborhood! (Which may be why the thieves trageted our area; good pickings with complacently secure people. Half our neighbors used to leave their cars unlocked--at least before Monday.) First time anything like that has happened on our street. I'm just glad that the CDs I was borrowing from my roommate were home-burned mixes which can be easily recopied. I now have greater incentive for getting all my music copied onto the computer.
It's weird, yesterday I was just sort of "OK," but my Dad was handling it. Not until today--with Mom driving me, realizing stuff I won't be able to get to, etc.--is it sinking in and I'm getting upset. But yes, nobody was hurt, and that's important.

Oh how awful Catbird--not just your car got stolen but also your Dad's Ford SUV?
I agree, be thankful at least in these times, no one got hurt but...boy I'd like to get some of my buddies together and have 5 minutes with the lowlifes who ripped you off!

Aww, thanks Techguy. If those buttwipe thieves should happen to cross your path...so it goes. (I just noticed your new location. Yay Kilgore Trout and Billy Pilgrim! But where is Remulak?)
At least the insurance company is nice and helpful. Nothing can take effect for about a month or so, cause they have to wait a certain amount of time. But the adjustor came out within a couple hours of filing to inspect Mama's damage, and the police seemed to be making half an effort when they took the statement. We'll see what happens.
