Caseywife: Kilgore Trout, lived on Between Tralfamadore is a Kurt Vonnegut character, and Remulak is home to the Coneheads, old SNL. I guess you have to be of a certain age, sigh

Caseyswife, Madger is on to what Catbird and I are bantering on about.
For the Tralfamadore, Billy Pilgrim and Kilgore Trout references, see Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse-Five."
Beltar (Dan Aykroyd), Prymaat (Jane Curtin), and Connie (Laraine Newman) are the alien family the Coneheads of Remulak from the early "Saturday Night Live" days. The "France" reference has to do with the Coneheads' answer whenever they were asked where they were from and where Remulak was.
I guess you had to have been there. Or, as Madger suggests, of a certain age. *Sigh*

Happy Birthday September babies! My goodness, Catbird, sorry about the cars! How craptacular. I really cannot believe how fast this Summer has flown by...now it's crunch time. In just two weeks I'm going to have a booth at a big fiber festival in the area. It goes without saying that I am nowhere near ready

OK, the Coneheads I didn't know. I've only seen a few clips of classic "Saturday Night Live." I do know that when my parents watched "3rd Rock From the Sun" and they saw Jane Curtin as Dr. Mary Albright, their eyes lit up, they looked at each other, and exclaimed simultaneously "Jane, you ignorant slut!" (And then they had to explain to an 11 year old Catbird, who was asking with a puzzled expression "What did she do?")
But my parents try to instill some sense of culture in me. Growing up their idea of cultural awareness was cranking the oldies station in the car and demanding "Alright, daughter, who is it?" Apparently it was of vital importance that I know the three members of Cream and their instruments*, and which folk singers were involved with which members of Crosby Stills and Nash**. Along with several classic movies and TV episodes--they actually pulled me out of bed one night in the 4th grade so I could see Lucy in the chocolate factory.

* Eric Clapton on guitar, Jack Bruce on bass, Ginger Baker on drums.
**Judy Collins with Stephen Stills, she was the inspiration for "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes". Joni Mitchell with both David Crosby and Graham nash at various points. Because I must display my useless random knowledge that is yet to pop up in "Trivial Pursuit".

YES Catbird! SNL rocks!
Long live Dan Aykroyd doing the "Jane you ignorant slut!" routine with Jane Curtin. And the Coneheads, the late Gilda Radner's Babba Waawaa spoof of Barbara Walters and her Roseanne Roseannadanna's "Never mind!" Aykroyd and the late John Belushi's Blues Brothers, the Killer Bees, Belushi's Samurai...anything, Bill Murray and the gang's "Cheeseburger, cheeseburger..." Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
What a glorious time it was. Kudos to your parents who must subscribe to the Graham Nash lyrics "Teach your children well..."
BTW, If your folks are into Cream, I highly recommend the DVDs of their farewell concert (November 26, 1968) and their reunion concert (May 2-3-5-6, 2005)--both are from the legendary Royal Albert Hall.
BTW #2, Lucy on the assembly line in the chocolate factory, and doing the Vitamitavegamin (sp?) TV commercial, get me LMAO every time I see them!

Phil Hartman--he could do anybody, anything and make it funny. Everything I've heard says he was a good man too.

Techguy et al>>> I remember the Coneheads and all the skits you are referring to. I am of that age! I just didn't put it together... I loved the one where Aykroyd was the repairman and was working on Gilda's fridge and showed his butt crack. Both Gilda and Bill Murray couldn't keep from laughing. And of course, who could forget the fabulous Blues Brothers?!? caseyswife

I know the Blues Brothers from the movie, not the TV sketches. But what I've seen of Dan Aykroyd just tickles the fire out of me: Fred Garvin, Jimmy Carter, Julia Child, etc.
Happy Birthday Observer! Hadn't heard from you in a while, but I hope you enjoy your special day!
Happy Birthday also to Eyespeak (sorry I can't get the capitals) and Bobbysgrrl.

that sucks, Janet. I'm glad no-one was hurt though. My brother's-in-law car was broken into twice. They stole, among other things, a handmade quilt that my mother made. It's probably being used for some junkies squat.
LOSERS, everyone of them.
