Well...I had a great holiday here. The weather was beautiful-- (I get to brag endlessly, since the rest of the year we suffer with heat and humidity!) a crisp 40, with clear, blue, sunny skies and low humidity. Our little apartment was packed with about 15 friends and family. All the kidlets came with their assorted loved-ones-of-the moment, my mom (tough day for her, too many people) hubby, and a divorced dad and his little ones. (Divorced dads seem to be my mission lately, don't know why.)
We had a little hiccup, The Oldest called early in the day and said he wouldn't make it, because his vehicle had broken down. (He had to stay and wait for the mechanic.) The poor guy sounded so depressed and frustrated, he's not enjoying adulthood lately. I busied myself with cooking mountains of food, trying not to get worried and sad, but God smiled on us, and an hour later he called to say he was on his way! We had a day full of love and FOOD, (we're still eating) a good day.
But, not a good evening for my daughter. She worked Christmas night, and got punched by an (unmentionable) junkie, bless his heart, and broke some teeth. She assures me she's fine, I'm the one that wants to hurt him. bad.

Madger, I hope you finally got to celebrate Christmas with joy and hope. I wish the best for your family, especially your mother-in-law.
Sarahlee, the scum who assaulted your daughter should be arrested. Someone should step into 'em--very hard. I hope you had a good Christmas despite this setback, and that your daughter is doing better.
Is everyone primed and pumped to resume new CI episodes next week? It seems like forever since we got something new. I'm hoping the New Year gets off on the right foot with a boffo Logan/Wheeler episode in "World's Fair" followed by...what will we get with Goren/Eames when "Privilege" comes calling?

YES! YES! YES! Techguy, I'm ready!! I even watched the clips on the NBC "Hard Evidence" site, and couldn't help thinking of "Men in Black". It looks like it should be pretty good. I bought my niece the "Full House" series DVDs (seasons 1 and 2) for Christmas, and am sooooo happy she left them at her house today! (dodged a bullet) The only DVDs we got were the "Dog Whisperer" and no matter how many times I make the dogs watch them, they don't seem to see me as "pack leader" yet. Oh, maybe there is some small slow progress as we try to to enforce the new rules. We'll just keep working at it.

Me too! more than ready for some new storylines. You have to be firm with the dogs otherwise they'll run riot in the house! While I was house-sitting I put the kitty-kat on a diet. I had to. He was like a cement block landing on my head at 6am in the mornings! It was self-defence Frustratingly no-one noticed except me. He was a lot lighter to give cuddles to. Now everyone is back and they are feedng them the same old crap they always did!

Wow, that'll teach me to slack off posting/reading. I'm glad the holidays were fun and exciting.
Oh no, Sarahlee, that's awful! I'm glad your daughter is doing alright now, that's scary. Madger, I'm sorry about your husband's Mom. Christmas/holidays are always tricky with illness. Hugs to everybody.
We had a good Christmas--extended family the Friday/Saturday before, just us Christmas Eve/morning. And I got to sing in the choir at the Eve services, and meet up with some of the old Youth Choir people, so that was nice. We've spent much of the past few days (or weeks in my case) chilling and relaxing with Christmas movies, music, etc.
Other than a head cold/sinuses for the past two weeks I've been well. After some weather in the 70s (aaack!) we finally turned "cold" again so now we're in the 50s/60s. I got to play with my boys (babysitting) so that always makes me happy. I'm just relieved that they remember me after being gone at school since August; they always play hard (and the dogs are sweeties!). Meeting up with a couple good friends who go to different schools since we're all in town.
I just applied to graduate in May, so it's finally sinking in that "This spring is it, my last semester." I'll be excited when I know where I'm going, but right now I want to cry more than anything. I don't handle change well, and I'm so happy and contented being a student...shut up Catbird, it'll be OK.
I hope people have good/fun plans for New Years!
Take care all,
--Catbird

You fill out a form, hand it to the registrar to secure your place at the upcoming ceremony. That's all tere is to it realy, Janet ( and you don't have to thank me for telling you this!)
Catbird, congratulations on graduating! You've certainly worked hard for it in the past few years. What are your plans for the future? Grad school, working?

Oh Catbird, I so understand the tears--your life is about to take another big turn, scary, but exciting too. Be brave, good things can be ahead.
Thanks all, for the good thoughts for my daughter, she is a brave and bold soul, yet good to her core, so it always surprises her that bad people do evil. After some dental work and big bucks, she'll be OK. That junkie, bless his heart, is probably out doing his junkie thing.
Sirenna, I put Darling Doggie on a diet and exercise programme this year, and neither one has worked. After intense interrogation, the Household maintained firmly that he was getting fat on air, not second breakfast or fourth meal. So, I bought him a food trap for Christmas. It's a round ball with a small hole in it. The dog has to work (roll the ball) to get the food out. This slows down his eating and (in theory) stimulates his mind. (I love him, but he's not the brightest bulb on the tree.) Tazwell sulked and did his best to look wan and pale for 3 days before he realized this was the only way he would get fed. Weigh-in is January 31st. Wish us luck!

Actually - I bet it is about the same in how MUCH administration needs done; it is just where it is required.
Here; most universities require you to apply for admission & state a major area of study. Then all you have to do is keep track of your course, file paperwork if you switch majors & then apply for the cerimony to officially graduate at the end. So ours is start and end intensive & only up to the student inbetween (as long as they pay for each semester they are still "in")

I went to school in England too and it's pretty much the same. Every academic year ends with finals in most subjects. As far as I know here you don't apply to take them. The applying to graduate part is separate and more to secure your place with your class at the convocation ceremony.
My grad ceremony was BORING. But my final year was such fun mixed with a bit of regret that we were all moving on with our lives.
