BegtoDiffer, hugs to you and the family for your uncle. Sorry I'm so late, but best wishes and sympathy during the grieving/healing time.
Janethyland, so cool for the promotion! You're quick, I just got mine a few months ago! Isn't it fun!
The little boys I babysit back home have a couple dogs, one's a golden retriever and the other is just a good old mutt dog--short, short-haired, long body. Not a weenie dog, but her belly and back are stretched. Anyways, it's so funny to watch the little boy (3 years old) hug the mutt-dog's neck. "She's MY dog!" he says proudly as he squeezes and kisses her--lately he's declared that the mutt is the "Baby Dog because she's little" and the retriever is the "Mommy Dog because she's bigger". Both friendly dogs, but the retriever was there when I started sitting the oldest, she had her head in my lap when I struggled with Statistics back in high school and curled up to keep my feet warm on the couch.
Sobergal, DDR is indeed a fun game! I'm not so huge a fan I'd get the system and all, but at dorm events we have a blast. Enjoy!

Hahaha! In all those situations where you are saying to yourself "be the pack leader!," I'm saying to myself, "don't be an asshole! don't be an asshole!"... different instincts, I guess naw see, you must already be good with those kinds of situations and feel comfortable addressing them immediately. for whatever reason, people often look to me to solve problems in these kinds of situations, but it takes me a minute to step up because i'm naturally a little shy... I think it's admirable to err on the side of calm versus macho. Today at the movies, some jerk started insulting my grandmother. My GRANDMOTHER! I was so angry my head was pounding! But I had to keep (relatively!) quiet because 1. how rude to ANYONE can a person be in front of her grandmother? 2. the guy was that twitchy, dirty type that can't be trusted not to be crazy. TERRIBLE moment. I tend to esculate fights, instead of resolving them. But at least I got through that sweet little interaction, everyone intact! Maybe I should chant "I can be a pack follower, I can be a pack follower" to help keep that (smart) humility up! ;D

to the person who asked about my end quote: It's from review of a British movie about boys at a private school. One of the actors who landed his first ever role was talking about how he got into acting. (He always knew he wanted to do it.) I thought it was pretty insightful for a sixteen year old boy on his first job.

Update on DD's (Darling Doggie) diet: Yesterday I watched him shake all the food out of his food trap, into his food bowl (I had originally put the food trap in his bowl) and then eat the kibble. I can't figure out if he's smarter than I thought, or not...

Doctorj, I think the pack leader thing only works on dogs and I think that the Dog Whisperer is fun to watch.
Sobergal95: My old dog recently had to spend some time with a puppy and let's just say the puppy learned not all little dogs (mine's a shit-zu mix) want to play. We had the barking thing going too since my dog has a certain bark that means "it's 3 am but you had better get me out soon!!!". It was funand it gave my dog a lot of intellectual stimulation. Our puppy chewed cords, too, and generally managed to learn all my dogs bad habits and none of her good ones.

Aww, dogs! Darling Doggy sounds pretty smart, getting the food out of the trap. (We used to have a Maine Coon who would eat single pieces of dry food out of his paw, after he rinsed them in the water bowl. Now our cat just bumps the bowl to make the water move.)
And the puppy sounds so cute with the older dog! When we got Emma as an 8-week old kitten she was always playful and wanted to be busy with everything. (This did not sit well with the six-year old cat, who on a good day was disdainful and hardly appreciated the intruder into her house and space.) It was so funny to see the little kitten crouched on the stairs, eyes gleaming, only to jump down on the older cat as she passed underneath. Apparently Emma wanted a piggy-back ride; Cleo would just freeze stock still and then suddenly flop sideways onto the floor, hard and fast, to throw Emma off. (Actually we thought that was rather good-humored of her; for all her crabbiness Cleo rarely hissed or swiped.)

rue- what kind of a dirt bag picks on a grandmother? I don't think I could have been so cool about it.
If anyone is interested, you can find out how interesting my uncle was by googling him, Dominic V. Meuti. (He was my "Top Cop".) Thanks again to everyone for their condolences.

Thanks BTD, your uncle sounds like he did so much with his life. One of those everyday heroes we all know, but don't always notice. He lived the way we all hope to--he made a difference.

Just took my GRE today, that's a huge relief. Normally I don't get test anxiety, but this was really wrecking me for some reason. (Actually once I started the prep book I was thinking "Hey, I know what I'm doing...just like the SATs...I think I played this game before!") So I made sure to give myself some mellow time this morning--music specifically--and did fine on the test. Not terrific (truth be told it was a last minute cramming) but definitely some leeway for applications. And I feel OK about the essays, so we'll see about those.
Went out to dinner with some people to celebrate. Maybe this belongs on the pet peeve thread, but I really wish restaurants would list the prices on their drinks. I was in a happy mood so I didn't think to ask; a strawberry lemonade with Bacardi rum was $9.50!! AAACK! Definitely a special occassions occurrence and not a regular event.
Sorry to babble, but I'm just relieved it's done. I'm curling up with movies shortly.

CONGRATS janetcatbird! That must be a HUGE load off! What do you want to study in grad. school? And btw- yeah, drink prices are rediculous. But I'm hearing from friends newly breaking into the work force that a lot of companies have sponsored happy hours! So, maybe there's light at the end of the tunnel.

haha great deal Catbird! the GRE seems to have more worry involved with it. I took mine a few years ago, knowing I was a math 'tardo. Did OK on the math - but there were some questions I just plain went ..... I think it is time for answer B ! janet: GRE are standard tests used for entrance into graduate university studies - leading to Masters and PhD degrees. I'm starting my studies for my Masters degree just next week ...... not going to be fun as I will have to work full time also - but have my eye on the prize for the end of the program - about 3 years away.

Congrats, metella and catbird! Metella, you have alot of hard work ahead, but from what I've seen here, you are determined and focused. My mom went back to school when she was in her fifties and got her Masters. She taught school full-time, and drove more than 100 miles thorough Texas back roads three times a week. I am still amazed she did it.
