October 16th, 2008 Any street photographer will tell you that one of the most difficult parts of photographing people is building up your balls. That’s right. Your balls. Because in most societies (including ours) it’s considered rude as hell to whip out a camera and start taking a stranger’s picture without permission. Sure, there are ways around this - such as shooting from the hip, using a telephoto lens to keep your distance, or a few other tricks up the discreet photographer’s sleeve. But in my opinion, if you don’t have the balls to walk up to someone and snap their picture, then you’re doing it wrong. Cut to today, when I’m walking through SoHo enjoying some rare free time, and low and behold I see Vincent DonOfrio sitting on a street corner outside his trailer during a break in shooting Law & Order, Criminal Intent. I had my Canon G9 in my pocket so I figured it would be a good chance to grow my balls a little bit by snapping a picture of arguably one of the most intense actors of our time. (Sure, he’s been in some crap lately, but the guy was in Full Metal Jacket. I mean, come on.) So I stop in the middle of the sidewalk, fish out my camera, and take aim. And get this - he looks at me. And his eyes are doing more than just looking into my eyes. His eyes are looking into my soul, telling me he’s going to murder my children. My children. So I took the picture and got both the hell out of there and the heeby jeebies at the same time. So that’s about it. Enjoy the photo below. It’s going to cost me dearly! www.thecleverest.com/IMG_3363.jpg

All I can say is.."YIKES!!" VDO looks absolutely horrible in that shot. I don't see anger, more like exhaustion. And I hate to say it, but he looks drunk. His eyes are blood shot & red rimmed. I hope Goren isn't hitting the bottle this season. That I couldn't handle.

Click on thumbnail for larger image. Informal poll? Does VDO look (a) sinister (as the blogger who snapped this shot thought) (b) drunk (c) stoned (d) sleepy (e) older than his chronological age (49) (f) all of the above Is his look (1) artfully cultivated for the part (2) an unfortunate byproduct of his personal life Or shall I make this a formal poll with tabulation? Just say the word members. AL

What day was the photo actually taken? If it was the day after the debate hosting and the DW ceremony I would imagine that he had very little sleep. I think he looks a little tired and is just being a normal guy and relaxing.. Sounds like some people like to bash him for being a normal human being that just happens to have the type of job that puts him in the public eye and under a microscope. Between working,, a new baby, a young son, threat of going on strike and other projects in the works...........no wonder he's tired. Maybe he was up all night shooting? Give him a break.....................(sinister? stoned? ............you're kidding, right???)

Or the middle aged father of an eight year old and an eight month old? (g)
Well, he is wearing a pale blue shirt instead of the dark striped shirt and dark t-shirt combo we saw so much of last year. And I like his hair a little longer.
But I wish he could kick the smokes.

My take is that VDO is in character. I've seen numerous candid shots of him filming, and he always looks great. Maybe Goren is undercover as a homeless guy or addict/alcoholic? Not to mention that Goren the Detective wouldn't be wearing that kind of shirt while on the job. so it must be part of his cover. So for poll purposes, I select (F) All of the above and (1) Artfully cultivated for the part. ;D

And that look for me is more of "Good grief. Don't you have better things to do with your life than take a picture of me?"
The photographer has never seen Mr. D'Onofrio's really scary look, like in THE CELL or THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD.

Patcat, may I borrow your ASP bat?
Today I must look drunk too. My eyes are blood shot and puffy. I have a sinus infection.

And that look for me is more of "Good grief. Don't you have better things to do with your life than take a picture of me?" Absolutely right. And we can't blame him for that. Just imagine you can't even take a break without people taking pictures. Yes, he's an actor, but he still deserves his private space from time to time. And maybe he was just annoyed. The photographer could at least have asked if he could take a picture.

A definite Yes to (e), and as a guess, (2) for the second section of th epoll. Never saw anyone age so fast in five years. He looks exactly like a friends' husband - who is 65.
Members here keep saying that he just looks his age. Not to me, and I am surrounded by men in their 40s and 50s and even 60s. Some of these people haven't aged well, it's true, but VDO has looked a decade older than he should for THREE YEARS. He looked 56 when he was 46.
Whatever else may be true, it seems quite clear that the 8 Goren eps of Season 8 will not see Goren/VDO in fine form again. Never again, is my guess.

It was taken the 16th of Oct, he was filming. In Sept, the two girls who waited for him to come out of his trailer, said the crew told them he was sleeping. So he does get rest between filming, that is why they have the trailers, so the actors can relax and sleep. He must have just woken up and was still a little sleepy. He looks to be engaged in conversation with the two people with him, he probably didn`t even notice or care his photo was being taken. Im sure like other celebs, and actor`s filming, he knows only too well that people will get a photo, gosh he has had enough taken over the years. We all love them when we see them put up on blogs and flickr of them filming and standing around between takes, so this is no different Even the ones of him sitting with his no socks and just shoes on having lunch and a ciggie in the street. ;D If he wanted privacy, he wouldn`t do that, or come out of his trailer to sit around having a chat with people and a ciggie in public

He looks tired to me and not "on". Right at the moment he was taking a break, not have his actors face on and probably a bit tired.
I do wish he would dumb the cigs but his choice.

I'm appalled at some of the accusations mentioned here. For a minute or two, I thought I somehow got connected with DL, because that's the level this thread is sinking to.
