I noticed that too LOL, i thought it gave a kind of innosence to his character, rather then the arrogant, sure-of-himself cop we are so used to seeing. I also thought it was funny that some of the honeys made passes at him too LOL can you blame them ;D.

The thread on the episode BLINK is touching upon Goren's father and his apparent fondness for gambling, and this has led into a discussion of how Bobby developed with such an apparently bad male role model.
It's just possible that his father wasn't a completely horrible human being--perhaps he was extremely immature person who simply couldn't handle the responsibilities of dealing with an ill wife and his son(s?)? Maybe there were periods when he was at least an entertaining and happy presence in Bobby's life? Of course, the disappointment when he left Bobby might have been worse.
Whatever the case with his father (I suspect the worse rather than the better), I think Goren encountered a strong, positive, fatherlike figure at some point. Possibly even a policeman. The right person at the right time can make a tremendous difference.

Patcat: I believe it was in the all star episode of Cherry Red when Goren discusses watching(going?) to baseball games with his father.

Goren mentions seeing Willie Mays at a baseball game he attending with his father. This was in the episode PRAVDA.
D.
Sorry Techguy - I made the mistake of saying Robinson instead of Mays! The ep was PRAVDA.

Now I'm getting a bit confused about the CI episode(s) with baseball references.
I remember Det. Goren saying something about seeing Willie Mays, and how angry he was, etc. Is this scene in yet another CI episode altogether, or am I just too mixed up right now?

Cherry Red is where the father is watching a tape of a game and Goren mentions his father was there. He doesn't say HE was there. I thought it was football, but it's been a while since I saw it.

Yah, that's the scene in Cherry Red I was referring to - I had forgotten the "angry baseball" player bit; that also shows that Goren & his dad had some time together - quality? who knows.
But it was tinged with good feelings in Cherry Red. Cherry Red. Just like the way that looks - Cherry Red.

I saw that in CHERRY RED. Was Goren looking for his dad on Roger's Dad's tape of that game? Cause he did say, " I think my dad was at that game.."
In PRAVDA, I think thats where Goren syas Mays was an angery man, when Goren's dad brought him up to get an autograph...*Mel thinks*

by the way goren talks, it doesnt sound like his father spend very much time with him does it? b/c i can count on one hand the episodes (the ones i have seen anyway) when he talks about doing stuff w/ his father. Parhaps there is more family symbolisim in the ep 'a murderer among us' when he tells Brody's sister how hard it must be to be astranged from her 'only brother'. Was he giving us a little foreshadowing on his relationship with his own brother? Hmm .

Great take on the heffner empire! Although I thought Bogdanovitch played him a little bit more like the bimbo king and less like the shrewd businessman Heffner really is. They might have called this one a trip to the shallow end imo but its interesting that while the whole focus of the episode was on superficial sex it is love that triumphs in the end. I would love to know who came up with the casting of Dogdanovitch as Heffner type guy as given his past history with the man this must have been a hoot for him to play! Arquette did a really fine job as the mother who as I see it was just as hellbent for self destruction as the daughter. It would seem everyone has to pay a price for free love in this life ...except of course hugh heffner.

The father didn't seem to pay any real price to me .... he was just jaunting along his life & paying attention to his daughter so it Looked good to voters, Looked like he was trying to be the good father & just had a B***hy ex to cause him problems.
How stinky people are so quick to work on coverups for others, why that male worker was so proud to play interference for the father to protect his political career .... when he should have been showing how UNFIT for politics in a moral sense this guy was. but of course, he fit right in. That is club, not a sex club, but a slimy club.

The fact that the father dropped out of the race was pretty satisfying to me. He had to give up his dream, the thing he wanted most. The guy came off as a total slimebag right up until the end, with the whole "so he can spend more time with his daughter" comment to the press. It was so transparent he said that solely for the PR angle. Eames' comment about missing his press conf b/c they were too busy sugaring their coffee's at a crime scene was priceless.

Aside from the Jack and Jeri Ryan ripped-from-the-headlines connection, there is more to Bogdanovich's portrayal of Hugh Hefner than just personal disdain. Hefner actually did auction off some of his Playboy memorabilia, including his "little black book."

I wonder who all Heff had in his "'lil Black Book"? ...wonder if any of Heff's black book entries would kill to keep their names secret? I could probably hazzard a few guesses at some people probably scrawled in those pages...
