Oh wow, that brought tears to my eyes, it really did. How wonderful of Mr. Balcer to be in touch with you all. I was hoping for more episodes but this has been a really great last season and I'll be happy for CI to end on a high note.
Thank you, Mr. Balcer, for your work on CI and on mothership (I wish you had gotten more seasons with the mothership - those last 3 were amazing!). These were my favorite shows.
I'm also intrigued and excited that you did a rewrite on the final episode. Can't wait to see it!

AL--I got that email too, and was so moved and thrilled that I didn't know how to respond. Goren and Eames have gotten me through some bad times. Both brilliant and wonderful creations, and I'm very grateful to Mr. Balcer for creating them. And I'm happy that his work was acknowledged in these gestures. Patcat PC, you have held down the fort here for years, when the series was in production and when it wasn't. You are one of the great LOCI fans; I'm so glad Rene Balcer was in touch with you. Before VDO was ever cast, LOCI was Rene Balcer's baby. He's also the guy who made sure VDO could do the show half-time after Season 4. He must really be feeling the loss, as we all do. (And he also had to say goodbye to the mothership last year and to LOLA just recently.) I'm sure he appreciates any good words from fans here. AL

Television needs more Rene Balcers. I think that has to be a first among television moguls...actually recognizing fans and appreciating their support. Maybe the Walmarts, K Marts, Stein Marts, Sears and Macy's could learn a thing or two from him. It isn't all about the bottom line, somtimes its just about the loyalty. Thank you, Mr. Balcer for understanding that. Well, it is about the bottom line, but when you can have quality and still make money, that's pretty decent.

Breaks my heart to hear the sets are all broken down. It makes it seem so final.

Thanks Annabelle for the opportunity to thank the show’s co-creator.

Thank you Mr Balcer for creating not only memorable characters, but also the best episodes that have become classic Criminal Intent.
I will definitely be watching the final episode for your Hitchcock(ian) appearance!
Best wishes in your future projects.

Thanks so much for sharing Annabelleleigh! I hope he has enjoyed the message board comments through the years.
To Mr. Balcer, I will be forever grateful for the development of the wonderful characters of Goren and Eames! The quirks, friendship, snark, and camaraderie of the characters and D'Onofrio and Erbe have been a joy to watch from week to week. LOCI was my only "must see TV" during the entire run. Not only because I was entertained, but because I found myself thinking about aspects of an episode days or even weeks later. Multiple viewings were mandatory at my house!
To the writers and to the actors who brought their words to life, especially Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe, there are not enough words of thanks. While Goren was going down his particularly dark and harrowing road and criticism of the actors and show was rampant, I could not participate here because I was too close. As primary caregiver to my terminally ill mother, I felt isolated, alone and most importantly that no one understood my situation. The feelings of anger, fear, frustration, love, sadness, weariness and helplessness coursing through me, that I saw written in Goren's situation and so admirably portrayed by D'Onofrio gave me the feeling I was not alone. Someone else knew those feelings! They will never know what that meant.
Finally, I want to say to everyone involved in this wonderful show from Mr. Wolf, Mr. Balcer, the actors, writers, production staff and crews is that while you gave us great entertainment for 10 seasons which we will continue to savor in reruns and on DVD, you also provided intelligent, well-written, thoughtful drama with humanity and depth not much in evidence on television these days. Thank you for these final, great, eight episodes and good luck to all in their future endeavors.
You should all be very proud and will be sorely missed!

Very classy man, Mr. Balcer! Well we had a great run, 8years, an interupted 9th year and finally a special season to say goodby, what more could we ask of the finale than for it to be respectfull to the two stars of the Original Criminal Intent, we had that and it is appreciated. To Mr. D'onofrio, Ms. Erbe, and all the fine actors and actresses who gave us such a wonderfull show, THANKYOU, you will be missed, but will never be forgotten and can never be replaced! To Mr. Bacer, Mr. Wolf and the writers, directors, producers and crew, thankyou for your talent and your loyalty to us the fans and to the stars Vince and Kate who benifitted from your handling of the show, we feel a loss at the ending but a joy in knowing we had it for as long as we did. See you in re-run land

Lovely tributes everyone. Keep 'em coming. They are being read.
As for me I'd like to add:
Thank you, Rene Balcer, for bringing both women (Stephanie Sengupta, Elizabeth Benjamin, Marlane Gomard Meyer, Diana Son et al) and playwrights (Theresa Rebeck, Warren Leight, Gina Gionfriddo) to the LOCI writing staff over the years. These hiring practices are common now but not so in 2001. Mr. Balcer was a trailblazer.
All those women writers brought -- I think -- a feminine sensibility to LOCI that the other L&O vehicles lacked. Another aspect of the show that made it extra-special.

A message from the Uk, i love the show and am sooo upset that this is the end. I have been able to watch the last 4 episodes and they have been really great, it just seems unfair that its ending when i think there could be so much more. I would like to thank Mr Balcer for creating the best cop show i have ever watched and thankyou to Vincent and Kathryn. I will miss them so much.

All those women writers brought -- I think -- a feminine sensibility to LOCI that the other L&O vehicles lacked. Another aspect of the show that made it extra-special. AL Amen Annabelleleigh! Rene Balcer was a trailblazer in 2001 and I hope he continues into the future. The writing was always so strong on this show developing plot and character, but also engaging the minds of the audience. The women writers showed Eames to be a strong, independent female character and I think gave Goren his empathetic layers. My only sadness, besides the fact that the show is ending(!), is the fact that I felt LOCI never received the critical acknowledgment it deserved. Critics lobbed it in with the other Law & Orders and then complained because it was not Law & Order! It was frustrating for me, so I can just imagine how it must have been for those working on the show. Toward that end, the only thing that can be said is that the fans of the show did get it and were thrilled by LOCI's uniqueness each season!

Amen, AL, and Leonore.
When I see the shows and the performance that get attention and rewards, I don't understand how LOCI never got the same sort of attention. At least I think it received an Edgar.

Sadly the actors never received their due from the Hollywood awards machine but -- yes, PC -- Rene Balcer and Elizabeth Benjamin won an Edgar in 2005 for "Want." IMO, that ep raised the bar for writing TV police procedurals everywhere and has not been equaled since.

Thank you for sharing this message from Mr. Balcer to all of us here, dear Annabelle. I am a huge fan of his, as he has given me so much joy from his work on LOCI. Not to mention that when Rene became the showrunner of the mothership, the series returned to it's original quality. As was mentioned, the last three years of Law & Order were the best! And I will dearly miss LOLA, especially the new episodes with Alfred Molina as a Detective. Riveting episodes. Of course NBC won't give it the time it needs to develop. Rene, thank you for giving us such endearing characters. Goren, Eames, Lupo, Bernard, Rubirosa, Cutter.... just to name a few. Your talent is amazing, and I wait anxiously for what you will be involved in next. And thank you for caring about how we, the fans, feel. I can't wait to see "The Boy In The Blue Knit Cap." Is the boy Bobby as a child? Thank you for rewriting the final episode, making it true to the characters. Looking forward to seeing you in the final episode.

During the Twitter chat tonight Kathryn Erbe encouraged us to let USA know we want more so if you want it, go tell 'em! They assemble and break-down sets in numerous locations every day in NYC. Just because another series moves into that spot doesn't mean there isn't another spot for LOCI to set up - and a bit of rennovation might be a good thing for the MCS squad room. So what the hell...let TPTB know you are loving this season and you want to see more. Can't hurt, you know! ;D

Excellent notion. I think we all should tweet USA Network every day until the execs get the message.
