I just saw this one tonight - my first introduction to Barek but not Logan, since I've been watching this season since it started on NBC. Overall at this point I like her, but I do find her habit of talking to herself annoying. It just seems forced and unnatural, like the people coming up with her character needed to give her an eccentric habit and basically looked at a list and said "What haven't we used yet?" I also wasn't impressed with the way she brought up Logan's past in Interrogation. Unless she really didn't know, to me that was going too far. But other than that I like her, right now at least. (I also said I liked Sara when I started watching CSI and caught her on a couple of eps in syndication prior to seeing season 4)
I also really like Logan and will confess to sort of wishing I could have been the witness he was talking to at the beginning when Barek teased him about "Teddy bear Logan." But his sarcasm is great and he does seem to have compassion for the victims, even though he'd never admit it. Also, his and Barek's unease under their new captain was cute and such a contrast to Goren and Eames, who are completely comfortable around Deakins.

One scene from LO sticks in my mind after all these years......Logan and his partner are chasing a suspect down alleys and junky areas. The suspect is out ahead of the partner so Logan runs around the building and heads the guy off at the alley and waits. Right before the suspect gets to Logan, Logan picks up a trash can lid and then smacks the guy in the face with it.
I knew then that I really liked Mikey!!!

Does it feel awkward watching these show seasons so out of order, GorensGirl? Especially if you're watching Goren as he seems to change the most.
Barek called Logan a 'Teddy Bear' If anyone's turned into a big teddy bear, it's Goren with his extra weight. Or is it padding as a friend suggested? I can't tell.
You might be like me, being a Goren fan first then catching an eyeful of some of Logan's best episodes and then being sold on *his* style of detecting.

I think Barek was intended to be the female equivalent of Goren, but it fell short because the writers didn't know how to write the character, and/or the actress didn't have the chops to go for it. I'm disappointed they didn't make her another Eames.

I'm disappointed they didn't make her another Eames. On the other hand, they wanted to concentrate on "Mr. Big" Noth. He absolutely had to take center stage on this one. I got the feeling that Logan was like Eames. So they needed to make Barek a little "different". Maybe not to the extreme that Goren is but along those lines. Kind of like a loner/quiet about hidden talents or knowledge. Good at the job but not good at the office politics.

No matter what, I will always give props to DW for creating female characters who look and act like real women...ya know?

Some of the best women characters on his shows have been played by actresses who are not "beauty queen" types. They are definitly attractive but not in the Gracie Freebush style.

It's not too bad, since I've been watching for a couple of months the syndication eps since the era with Samantha Buck. But going from season 7 on NBC to syndication does make me blink a bit, especially with seeing Ross instead of Deakins. (Ross unfortunately physically resembles a very unpleasant relative I used to have as well, which isn't helping me warm up to him!) And I can't remember Barek's exact comment, but it was something like "cuddly" or "teddy bear." She and Deakins were watching Logan through the window as Logan interrogated a junkie in an office and Logan sat down next to him and put his arm around him. She said she wasn't expecting that to be his interrogation style. And I think I am like you - I saw Logan's first season 7 ep first, then his guest appearance in season 4, then Senseless, and now Diamond Dogs. But Goren always will be my favorite

Okay, I couldn't resist. I had to go and check. She said "cuddly". He had his arm around the dope dealer when she said it and told Deakins she didn't think that would be his style. Soon after Logan thumps his hand on the table and she comments that's more like she expected, and we all know that's true Logan style.
But she got more than she bargained for later with the pool hall bullying, so Logan redeemed his reputation for being anything but cuddly.

I'm disappointed they didn't make her another Eames. The best scenes of Sciorra were when she was emoting, like when she was acting seductive in "Watch" with Brad Renfro. The woman can act, but she couldn't get the character right. There's low key & then there's acting almost dead. She needed to go from low key to showing real emotion - that would have made her interesting in my book.

Well, Sciorra was dealing with a character that didn't seem to be well defined, but the actress also didn't seem to have her heart in the work.
