I have never really thought of the character as that strange until the ep he cuts his wrists to see if the perp responds to blood.
Any votes on strangest affectation/quirk / incident?

In "Sound Bocdies" when he tasted the "caulking" and discovered it was made with cake icing.

As most here already know by now, Det. Goren's near-orgasmic reaction to the red sports car in "Cherry Red" is indelibly etched in my memory.
For gross-out effects, the two scenes that come to mind are when Goren puts the Q-tip up the nose of a murder victim (in "Mad Hops" perhaps?) and the poking the eyeballs scene in "Con-Text."

1. Message carrying - weird dance/singing number - Bernson epi this year (sorry brain-burp) 2. Sniffing corpes in general - grosses me out (Blue cheese anyone?)

They're probably not my favorites, but I can think of a few odd moments which deserve mention.
~ The time in "Blink" when Goren risks certain death just to see the suspect's reaction.
~ Goren's dance with the suspect during the interrogation of "Pas de Deux".
I suppose it is more of a hobby than a quirk, but I really like Goren's fondness for dancing. We see it in "Pas de Deux", "Jones", "Unrequited" and "Prisoner". I'm willing to bet I probably missed a few.
Again, I'm not sure if it's a quirk, but Goren's habit of touching things and assisting people is rather unique. I think one of the best episodes to see examples of this habit is "Phantom". Step right up and witness the amazingly talented and versatile detective! Whether it's culinary finesse or wind chime expertise, Robert Goren is your man! In all seriousness though, I happen to think that the final scene of "Phantom" is one of Goren's best moments. But that's a bit off topic, isn't it? I'd better end this now before I really start to gush!
Good question, maherjunkie!

Don't know if this constitutes as a weird moment, per se, but the interrogation scene in Jones where he mocks Henry Talbot over his *cough* size is an absolute classic moment in the Goren repertoire.
Also... and how could we forget...? His Gumby moment in One, climbing up on the church pews in The Faithful, and The 'Goren Show' with Howard in that same episode.

Gumby happened in ONE when Goren bent at the waist to get eye contact from a perp who wouldn't look up. VDO said that the actor wouldn't make the eye contact which is why VDO did the dip. And so one of Goren's characteristic mannerisms was born.

I like the part in Probability ( I think thats the ep that aired tonight on USA???) when they walk into the warden's office & Eames says, "No plaques, how are you going to amuse yourself?" Bobby replies, "Don't know, no awards either." Eames comes back with a famously snarky comment of, "Believe it or not, some people don't like to show off." As Eames is talking to the warden, he is fidgeting around, not knowing what to do, Eames then points him toward the books, he looks almost relieved. ;D.
I loved his reaction to the car in cherry red. I would have had the same reaction, I mean it was a Ferrari 250 (i think???) GTO for God's sake!! Did you know they only made 273 of those? The smallest production of any Ferrari, I understand him jumping at the chance to sit behind the wheel, hear the engine rev, feel the car's power under your seat ... ok, I'll stop now lol.
I love Bishop's face in Sound Bodies when he is tasting the cake frosting she had, 'ok, this guy's a wacko,' written all over her face. I don't care what other people thought, I liked her. At times I felt sorry for her because she was always being left in Goren's mental dust. I can't help but wonder of that's how my friends feel, lol.

I forgot about his reaction to the Ferrari. I like that one too. There are so many, it's had to pick a best.

How about his propensity for asking weird and/or socially inappropriate questions? ie, his question to the so-called little girl over the phone in Faith about her menstrual cycle? LOL Deakins' reaction to that was priceless.

The "Goren Show" moment in "The Faithful" when Goren is in the interrogation room with the homeless man.

Sirenna - BINGO correct. Goren's ways are an "Acquired Taste" but effective. Putting someone off guard by doing unanticipated things is a powerful weapon. It offers less time to cover up or try to deceive. Let's get them off balance and see what shakes loose is the mantra he goes by. Very clever and very Sherlock. His investigative tools go right back to how the brain processes information. The first base approach is via our "Senses" Goren uses that, like every child learns to do. If you want information - Look, Listen, Touch, Smell, and finally Taste (if safe) From there, the brain will pull from other experiences to formulate ideas. To this end, Vincent has crafted Goren brilliantly.
