Wow, talk about a way to end the season. I felt like this evoked some of the Goren/Eames episodes of the earlier seasons, and definitely beat out "Frame" and "Renewal" and probably "The Good." I think this on the heels of Family Values might have just put me into CI ecstasy. That being said, I think the only real flaw of this episode was that it could have benefitted from making it a two-hour finale, and maybe have included Goren. And speaking of him, I loved Nichols's German and Eames's remark about him reminding her of someone. I will have MUCH more tomorrow after I can rewatch it via iTunes. One last thing, did anyone find it refreshing to see the sniper shot sort of leave Nichols at a loss for words, makes him seem human every once in a while.

Peter, I almost started this thread but you beat me to it. I agree, this is an awesome season finale, much more satisfying than last week's G/E finale. I also would have liked for this to have been a 2-hour episode with Goren; I think he would have benefitted from interacting with Nichols in this one.
For me the only flaw is, I don't get how Nichols broke the car window with the pen as someone mentioned on the preview thread. I also thought it was way too risky to "look inside" the bakery box without knowing for certain what would have set the bomb off. But I overlooked this when Eames asks "Did you just save our lives?" and Nichols replies "You could buy breakfast."
To elaborate on what Peter already mentioned, the above scene was soon followed by this exchange in the squad room: Nichols (discussing letter writer's use of English): ...some language where the present perfect is the same as the simple past. Eames: You're starting to remind me of someone. Ross: This one's taller.
Apparently Nichols also has some connection to Germany just like Goren does. I wonder who this Captain Berger is that Nichols asked to contact about information related to the case?
I enjoyed Nichols and Eames working together again, the snark and dark humor crackle. The killer is especially ruthless, although I began to suspect something was going on between him and his young female accomplice, Shelley the secretary. The killer is adamant about not leaving "loose ends" so the fact he hadn't also eliminated her suggested some surprise was brewing. Mighty Mouse wasn't so lucky. And Shelley's luck eventually ran out.

I haven't managed to pick myself up off the floor from this one. I was cracking up at that whole "You're starting to remind me of someone" scene. That was so well done. Bobby was in the room...even though he wasn't. The story seemed to fly. I couldn't believe it when the 45 minute mark came. I thought the young woman was jealous when she caught our German friend (his name has left my brain for the moment) with that other woman...and she was, but for a different reason. I was stunned to realize she was his daughter. The ending was exactly what I expected, though I thought she was going to shoot her father before the sniper got her. And that was an absolutely stunning visual, the way Zach caught her. He had to hold her up, and the way she fell, their bodies formed a cross. I, too, think this could have been even better as a two-hour finale with Goren, Nichols, and Eames all working together. My second favorite line of the night: Eames: Have you seen the Internet? They have a fan group on Facebook. Ross (in his usual deadpan): Yeah? We're not joining it. Loved it!

Goren in the room...even though he wasn't. Thanks for the visual imagery Outerbankschick! And thanks also for reminding me about the Ross Facebook snark. I was LOL a lot during this episode too.

This was a great episode. I like seeing Alex being able to work with another detective: maybe this is a way to prep her for a captain's role later? I think the season for CI as a whole would have been stellar if the episodes had been shown in order. Does any one else think that it was a way to showcase the Nichols' episodes and maybe make them shine a little brighter? Or maybe it's just my imagination.

Thinking about the Facebook snark, did anyone else notice the extensive use of trademarked names in this episode: Facebook, Audi, and the New York Times. I mean I know L&O doesn't skimp on car names, but usually Facebook is something like "Facespace" and what happened to "the Ledger"? Also, when Eames made her phonecall about the streetnames, and said, "Yeah it's me," could she have been calling Goren?? The USA forums seem to think so. AND, thank God, this put an end totheir theories of Goren being hit by a cab and Ashes of Time.

Oh, how I wish this had been a threesome episode. What an opportunity they missed when writing this one.
Goren was there....but wasn't.
The opening with Nichols, Eames and Ross was cute.
Anyway, liked it a lot but wish it had been a threesome. Watch it again to see what I missed.
Now to bed.

Goren not only in the room when he wasn't, he's also on the phone when he wasn't too. Why oh why didn't the writers just include him as IMDb was suggesting and spread the snark and humor around? Goren could use a few laughs and snarks. Not only that, I'd give anything to see Eames play referee when Goren and Nichols get it on and try to outdo each other in German.

*GRIN* That was me over on the USA board saying I think Eames was talking to Goren on the phone. The way she said, "Yeah...it's me." just sounded as though she was talking to someone she knew well, and someone who wouldn't have needed her to say "It's Eames"

And does not Kathryn Erbe have the biggest dimples when her hair is pulled back!! It really, really lets her face show with her hair back.

I agree. Katie is so pretty and I always wonder why they don't pull her hair off her face more often. She has a beautiful and very friendly smile, too.

Hopefully it is just your imagination, and mine too. I won't be a conspiracy theorist, but the last 2 filmed G/E episodes were very good, along with the last 2 Nichols episodes. But because the last 2 aired G/E episodes were pretty bad, it makes it look like the Nichols episodes were better. Anybody remember how bad the first few were? On the bright side, the writing did get better later in the season, for both sets of detectives. D'Onofrio even said that in an interview.
