About Danielle's pregnancy and paternity issues--is this another case of the detectives possibly being in cahoots with Captain Ross? It's the captain who waltzes in and announces "She's pregnant." And when Logan asks "Who's the father?" Ross produces a paper, Logan looks at it and says nothing at first but reacts with facial expressions. Was all this a setup to get Danielle to confess her part in the crime?
Janethyland, I'm not trying to be difficult either, but I admit I'm also at a bit of a loss to understand your position about adults in positions of trust having sex with younger partners that the law has defined as minors. Perhaps there are different legal (and moral?) standards between the US and UK, but I cannot come up with any situation or scenario where I can rationalize or defend that kind of behavior.

I always feel validated when people whose opinions I respect agree with me--this is about THE VIEW FROM UP HERE. And I liked what I saw of Ross last night. H-m-m, Eames' father seems a good guy, Deakins was, now Ross... I suspect Barek's departure won't be elaborated upon, if only because Ms. Sciorra was rumored to be difficult. My completely off the wall take is that Barek had an affair with Goren and had to get away from him (g). My take is that Barek tried an affair with Goren, but even he couldn't arrouse her suspicion!

Goren couldn't arrouse her? Then I suspect something other than her hats were too tight!

Was all this a setup to get Danielle to confess her part in the crime? Wait, are you talking about the scene when Ross and the detectives first fout out that Danielle was pregnant? The papers were brought in and Logan tried to take it but Ross snatched it before Logan could see it. Then Ross let Logan see. I don't recall if Wheeler seen the same time Logan did or not. Keith knew Danielle was pregnant at her allocution, so I suppose Ross could have been in on trying to get Keith to "see the light" by forcing Danielle to admit who the father really was to Keith. (I think Ross was with them then.)

Was all this a setup to get Danielle to confess her part in the crime? Good question Techguy, and this is one of the reasons I think the writing is weak in this episode. Nothing in the episode suggests they've set a trap for Danielle and are going to try to fake her out. And, in fact, that would make no sense. Since, in order for them to have the information to begin with, Danielle would've had to consent to the test, and per medical protocol, would also have had the results. They couldn't have kept the results from her. But, were they going to fake out Keith, with Danielle in cahoots with them? Maybe. Since she so suddenly and unrealistically realized that she'd been in the wrong and it was better for him to be rid of her. Maybe. But we didn't get any of that in the plot. The way it plays, somehow, the cops get the paternity results of Danielle's expensive and intricate genetic testing (especially intricate because they're trying to rule out either a father or son, who share tons of DNA and would require much more intricate testing and matching than if the persons to be ruled in or out weren't related) which required Danielle's consent and are then going into court to deal with the results, as presented in the medical report. No hint that there's a ploy or anything of the sort. But this is almost beside the point. In the end, I didn't really care whose baby it was, because I didn't believe that Danielle had authentically changed due to her stroll through the Manhattan House of Detention with Logan and Wheeler. Never mind the realism of that... I left this episode with no more insight into Danielle than I started it with. She just seemed freaky, and then even freakier for her flip-flopping. I didn't ever understand her pathology or her rapid turnabout. CI can, and has, and does do better. It's the story that was at fault here. Plain and simple.

In the end, I didn't really care whose baby it was Neither did I because I didn't give a rat's patootie about her, her husband or Keith. Lame characters all with zero personality, there's nothing about them that remotely interests me as they were presented. I left this episode with no more insight into Danielle than I started it with. Not to stereotype blondes, but in retrospect I see her as the ultimate dumb blonde joke, and just as exciting. Only a wank like Keith would find her remotely interesting, which says a lot about her equally wanky husband's taste in women.CI can, and has, and does do better. It's the story that was at fault here. Plain and simple. Lame characters + lame plot = episode lacking in necessary elements. As I stated in an earlier post, the only things that made watching worthwhile for me were the Logan/Wheeler interactions and the unfolding of Ross' persona. When they weren't on the screen, it was as if a giant black hole had materialized and sucked the life out of the story.

Right on, Techguy! Lame characters + lame plot -- and I would add lame acting (by the guest stars). Granted, it couldn't have been easy to do much with this script, but I thought the teacher and especially the kid were pretty awful. Wheeler/Logan, Ross, and the female mechanic made this episode tolerable to watch. The good news is that these are the constants of the show (at least every other episode), which means we could be in for some great episodes if the writing improves.
I didn't hate Barek nearly as much as everyone else seems to, so I actually thought the remark about her was cheap -- and not on the part of Ross or Logan (with his rolling eyes), but on the part of the writers for including it. OK, she wasn't well liked, but I thought the dig was inappropriate.
Has anyone else noticed that Goren/Eames are getting the heavier promotion? Granted, they're the senior team, they almost certainly have the larger fan base, but it seems that NBC has done away with even the appearance of equality between the teams. I'm a much bigger fan of Gorren/Eames than Logan, so I can't say I mind much.

still not sold on Ross as captain but willing to give him time i'm a logan fan, and like his new partner the freckle faced sprite with a backbone of steel but would like to see a story or plot to go along with their repartee

Janethyland, I don't know the factual details about the "child abuse" story you mention so I'll steer clear of it for now. Besides, I prefer to stay on the subject at hand, which is sex between adults and children, most specifically between the characters in this episode--Danielle and Keith.
I have no concerns about making a blanket statement or response about this issue because I believe very strongly about it. I can foresee absolutely NO situation or scenario in which it is acceptable for an adult in a positon of trust and/or power to have a sexual relationship with an underage minor. NONE as in zero. Zilch. Nada. No place, no time. It doesn't matter who the individuals involved are or what the "nuances" are. NONE. You say you don't know the ages or other details about the boarding school teacher and student you already mentioned, but regardless of how they turned out, it still sounds bizarre to me.
I realize this sort of thing might be condoned and practiced in some parts of the world, but it isn't here thank goodness. And just because others do it doesn't make it right and it doesn't mean I have to accept it. This is an absolute and non-negotiable stand I take. If you can imagine a scenario in which this sort of behavior is acceptable, I'd like to know what that would be. However, if you prefer not to carry this further, then we'll drop the subject and let it go.

I'm with you Techguy, never, never, never can I see a situation where it would be even remotely OK for this to happen. I have two boys of my own and if a teacher or any adult in authority did this to either of them I would want them put away for life.

If you notice, Janethyland, most of our blanket statements are based on actual sexual behavior. Of course claims should be investigated, and there are too many instances where a first name--who is innocent--gets publicly denounced and outcast. So if you're fearing a Scarlet Letter/Jean Valjean scenario I think I understand your reservations. But when it's proven true that an adult who should know better has sex with an underage minor, those who are guilty need to be punished/quarantined/whatever. And in this episode, it wasn't shadowy whispers and rumors; the sex happened plain and simple, we all knew it, and it's wrong. That's our knee-jerk reaction here.
