It's been very ironic the past couple of episodes. In Masquerade the writer did it. Now the actor did it. What next? The studio exec doing it? LOL Sirenna. I'm thinking there should be a "coup de ta" episode. Warren Leight is over thrown and Rene Balcer takes back the helm. Ebrown and Elizabethbay... Not only do the Albanians bootleg pirate DVDs, they shoot pirate movies too. I just snarfed a raw oyster. Not a good look. Thank you, ebrown. Devilishly clever, those Albanians... Maybe they can shoot a pirated LOCI Season 7 while they're about it. OMG...Both of your comments made me laugh so hard I almost choked on my coffee!! This episode was a bust for me for the blatant error mentioned above to the incredibly non scientific CPR performed by Wheeler and a host of other problems that made me squirm impatiently in my chair. I miss Rene! I miss the intelligent CI I have come to love and look forward to. But maybe I shouldn't scream so loudly...I'm having a heck of time trying to figure out how to add multiple quotes to this post.

It's always a bad sign whenever I do errands during an episode and during this one I phoned my parents - (it was my dad's birthday), phoned my brother to remind him to phone my parents, took out the garbage and re-heated some leftovers. However I took care to squeeze all of them in between the commercial breaks so I could keep watching.
I wasn't crazy about this episode. Plus my tape ran out fifteen minutes to the end so I missed the convoluted motive. I'll have to rewatch but so far I wasn't buying it.
There were some good parts. I actually like the slightly jealous dig at Goren from Logan. Maybe in the partner-picking stakes, Logan was her second choice. I'm getting the sense that Wheeler is the brains of that outfit and he's feeling it.
Another thing I liked was the beginning shot. What do they call that part? The murder scene maybe. I wonder if it has a technical term. Anyway as the murder of the child star was being completed the farewell music started to play. At first I rolled my eyes thinking: "Lord, it's got worse than the CSI zoom cam." But then I laughed because it took the scene and the murder to a surreal level visually and emotionally. The song triggered my now-pavlovian, movie-goer's impulse to feel regret when I hear strings or achapella!
But yet, at the same time poked inside fun at the whole teen star life. I thought that part was really witty.
I also really liked that in order for the guy (whatisname?) to be safe he had to become a nobody and he'd almost rather have had death than that! I guess that's the legacy of a child star but the redemptive quality (and, yes, I plan to play that element for all its worth because it's such an important part of the show for me) came through at the end. He wanted to remain safe, witness protection would do that but the price was to tell. After he took that step he found relief, even peace.

So perhaps the "big joke" was the bootleg Harry POTTER videos nearly landed Skater in POTTER'S field!!
yea, those Albanian mobsters were scary nasty... and Ross finally gets to pull his piece!!
Now we just need a followup episode where Goren and Eames have to save Logan from the nasty mob men... and allow Bobby the opportunity to tell Wheeler all about the Code of Lek!!
wheeee!!

Well I liked the episode. Thought there should have been more meat to the plot - more real reason for murder; but oh well.
I've always liked Logan and dispite my rag on her in the fight earlier in the season (and I stills stand there - she should have been in the fray until the end) I like Wheeler and the actress playing her. Wheeler is a welcome addition so far.

So perhaps the "big joke" was the bootleg Harry POTTER videos nearly landed Skater in POTTER'S field!! Heh. Or perhaps the writers were reaching for some "bloody" references: the "In-Blood" vendetta in CI , the "Half-Blood Prince" of Harry Potter. The "Dark Net" in CI, the "Dark Mark" in Harry Potter. And the theme of betrayal. Skater brought upon his demise by betraying the Albanians in CI and something Snapes does in Half-Blood Prince raises the issue of betrayal as well. Not to mention that the Harry Potter films feature quite a few child stars, too. Pretty clever and deep, huh? Nah, I didn't think so, either.

Now I'm sorry I missed it. My hubby is not a Noth fan and made me watch House this week instead. It's on tape though so I'll try and catch it later.

I thought it was an awful episode. I'm shocked that so many of you guys liked it.....
Where's the psychological aspect of the crime? The entire story was SO lame. Season 5 had some good/bad in it, but season 6 really sucks. It is so painful to see my favorite show go so bad.
Apart from Blind Spot and The War at Home--which were both OK, I personally have been very disappointed this season. This, for me, was easily the second worst episode, following the horrific Tru Love.
Painful. Just painful. But at least some of you guys liked it......

BETRAYAL and GREED was the psychological aspects of this crime. Probably two of the most reaslistic and common aspects there are . Skater started the ball rolling - betraying Willy, and the Mob - as a form of revenge for what he preceived to be a betrayal against him.

" BTW, I don't know squat about Harry Potter so if the reference in the episode misfired I totally missed it. Not that it mattered much, I liked the episode anyway.
Well, I'm a big geek, 'cause I caught that one right away! And I had no trouble figureing out who-done-it-and-why. (CI light/Leight LOL) I thouroughly enjoyed this one, and if this keeps up, I may not miss Goren/Eames much these next two weeks...(fat chance!)

I thought this episode was fine (not that that's a huge ringing endorsement ). There were a lot of little segments I loved....I really enjoyed the Logan/Wheeler interaction as always, and Ross continues his quest to make me love him (even if I sometimes don't "like" him, I am enthralled every moment he's on the screen). Also enjoyed the fun they had poking at "Saved by the Bell" and Screech...but I had a complete lack of emotional investment in this one. It was an entertaining hour, but I didn't feel there was anything I needed to go back and rewatch to gain deeper understanding. The episodes I find exceptional (and that really define why I adore LOCI so much) feed me intellectually and emotionally, and this did neither of those things. A good solid hour though. Logan and Wheeler are a delight to watch together.

In my case, not knowing squat about Harry Potter or "Saved By the Bell" or whatshisname--Mario Lopez?--certainly helped as I could appreciate the goings-on in "Blasters" on the basis of their own merits without comparing to the "ripped from the headlines" aspect of CI.
Yes, the motives are pretty basic--greed and betrayal and also lost/misplaced identity. I like "Blasters" because of what Mikeyrocks mentions, the balance of humor and pathos, and in this respect it reminds me a lot of another Logan episode I like, "Dramma Giocoso." Both DG and "Blasters" feature leeches and parasites feeding off one another for fame, glory and whatever identity they conjure up for themselves.
I'm still at a loss as to why MCS gets involved in Skater's murder. Sure, MCS deals in high-profile cases but Skater wasn't high- profile anything during his lifetime. He only becomes high-profile when his pirate DVD scam is discovered, but Logan and Wheeler are already on the case by then, the question is WHY.
No matter. The pathos in the episode is clearly evident in how Skater's murder is treated, almost operatic in nature with elements of Greek tragedy thrown in. Not even Skater's mother pays much attention to him until she sees the dollar signs from his residual checks. The opening sequence with the vocals overlaying the murder and dumping of the body like a sack of trash sets the stage for uncovering who this person is and why he ended up in Potter's Field. An unknown who achieves or regains notoriety in death. How morbidly sad.
The humor abounds in the Logan snarks and wisecracks, almost like Shakespearean pauses for comic relief. The interrogation scene with Logan playing Ms. Parasite Mira the Shower Girl is beautifully executed, as Willie/Kirk watches through the one-way glass as the girl he stole from Skater is hit on by Logan.
What strikes me the more I see Logan and Wheeler in action is how each character treats the generation gap. Logan is most definitely old school with lots of miles plus an exile to Staten Island on his gumshoes. Wheeler, on the other hand, comes across as a modern techno geek who keeps reminding Logan of what's new and what's happening now. I also feel she does a much better job of backing up Logan during the ice cream truck shooting, more so than what was displayed in "Maltese Cross." I think he is beginning to see himself as a mentor insofar as getting her more street-wise. For her part, she's taking pleasure in getting Logan up to speed on the latest music and cultural references. They really are coming into their own as a TEAM, another aspect that made me like this episode.
The more I see of Captain Ross, the more I like and respect him. It is a pleasant surprise to see that the man who takes a seat beside Ditmir at the shoe shine stand at the airport is Ross. I like how Ross pulls his piece on Ditmir too. Ross is definitely a hands-on Captain, and I look forward to more in-the-field scenes with him in upcoming episodes.
I also like the cliffhanger aspect, with Ditmir's "in blood" threat to Logan. Logan's going to have to watch his back even more from now on, so a helpful Wheeler is sure to be an asset when and if Ditmir's spectre rises again. Poor Mikey, as if his recurring nemesis Chesley Watkins isn't enough for him to handle.

Well, I could never understand why MCS got involved with what appeared to be the death of a homeless person , in Probability. No fraud was suspected at the beginning - just Goren and Eames out there, pondering the fate of a person who was socially marginal. Beats me.

Yea, a lot of the time they don't explain why MCS is involved. Sometimes it is assumed because of high profile but sometimes like in Probability, it isn't mentioned aswell. Also, technically the real NYPD MCS doesn't really investigate murder unless instructed by the mayer.
