Sirenna, I am surprised that you would dislike Caruso for your stated reasons. Believe it or not, law enforcement do have feelings that can be transmitted by their portrayers, under the guidance of a good writer, withour their role suffering. But, "to each his own said the farmer,,,,,"

Gone for a day, and look what I miss! I don't even know where to start... wait, yes I do. You guys have come up with some interesting choices I have to say that some of them are a little too famous and high paid to realistically be considered. I tend to think in lines of who would want to do a show like CI, and who the producers would hire, as well as my liking for the actor. I also have a type of character I'd like to see replace Goren if he had to go, which is why I chose Nemec. Someone asked about why comedic timing is important to me, well, isn't it obvious from my posts on the show for the past 2 years? ;D I love snarky Eames, and witty Lennie. Some actors say a perfectly written and very funny quip and it falls like a brick, while others can get twice the amount of laughs one would expect for the line. I think that Kathryn and Jerry have a way with making those lines rise to 2x what they would have been coming out of most other actors mouths, and so does Nemec. It's not just my little crush on the character he played on SG-1, he was hilarious in Parker Lewis Can't Lose, too. I think that, if given the chace, he would make the show more entertaining, and much, much less depressing. Another reason I chose Nemec that others seem to have left out or down played, is his size. He's not as big as D'Onofrio, but at 6' he still can make an imposing presence on the screen. As intimidating as Eames can be with her cunning eyes and cutting statements, she's not much of a physical presence. So, along those lines, tell me what you think. What kind of character should replace Goren? What is his/her personality? How will the character affect the show? Who do you think would want the part, and that the producers would hire for the role?

;)trisha i agree with virutally of that patricularly what you said about kathry nand jerry orbrach being able to add homour to a line that if said by many other actors would be less humorus and intresting.
i must say i agree with your last comments aobut eames except for the phyischal pressances, i mean think of phyiscal pressance in a way that is not nesscairly how much camerra room they take up.(i mean did i ever feel like at times during the bishop episodes that eames was sort of in scary way there even though she was not phyiscally i mean you can just sort tell she is around, i dont know what it is but something about kahtryn erbe and the character of eames she has this uncanny extrabody phyiscal pressance aobut her if you get what i mean.

NICOLEMARIE,
I don’t know if you’re fairly new to the internet, but if you’re going to copy someone’s post and put it on another board, it’s generally considered polite to ask first – not just tell them afterwards.
And it really isn’t polite to copy their post without taking out specific references to other people, especially people who don’t post on the other board. Metella, like many people, may not appreciate being discussed on a board on which she does not post.

..... if you invite the blokes over so I can debate them face to face, so to speak ..... I like giving out the smack downs. ;D j
As for protocol, Observer is correct. As for me, if I post anything, I consider it gone from me & you are free to use my words. It would be nicest if it was not chopped up and NEVER reflected on me in a bad way ... ha ha but well ..... so you have my ok for my stuff.

The post of Trisha’s that she copied to the Universal board still had your name in it. Since you later said that Trisha had been pretty accurate in representing your view, that may not be a problem. Still, for some people it certainly would be – to have their name and views being discussed on another board when they didn’t even know it was happening. I just wanted to make her aware of that.

"How about Andre Braugher (sp?) as a Goren replacement?" (haven't figured out how to do the quote thing.)
I like that LOCIfan! Sorry, haven't been here for awhile, but that is a good choice! Would be an interested twist of fate given that Andre and VDO worked together in Homicide, life on the street - when Vincent was trapped under the subway. Think Braugher won an emmy - Vincent was nominated.
Braugher is a fine actor - miss seeing him on tv - he would keep me tuned into LOCI if D'onofrio makes a premature departure.

Observer, thanks for speaking up about that. I wasn't exactly sure how to respond to it. Nicolemarie, I'm not mad, I just wish you had asked before reposting my words. There was a time when I was adamant about not posting on that particular board, period. I go back occasionally now, but if you had done that 8 months ago when I was still quietly raging about the things that happened over there, I would have been very angry about it. So, though a repost may seem pretty innocent, you really should ask first. To be totally honest, I think everyone would rather you just distill the point that you agree with and paraphrase it with a bit of your own explanation and personalization, anyway. Then you won't have to worry about asking or offending, and as an added bonus, those of us who also read and post there won't have to read the same thing twice Rom, I didn't make myself very clear in my last post. By physical presence, I meant as an imposing presence in the room -- someone that a perp, even a large male perp, would be physically intimidated by. In this manner, Goren uses his physical presence in ways that Eames cannot possibly equal. I suppose the show could be written so that neither of the detectives ever needs to show physical dominance, but I love those scenes when Goren uses his size to push suspects and interviews around. Eames could never hope to get the same reaction out of some of those guys. So, I guess in this respect I'm also hoping that anyone chosen to replace D'Onofrio be not only be at least a little on the tall side, but also strong looking. I'm also hoping that if D'Onofrio left, he would not be replaced with an older gentleman. I want Eames paired with someone that she is not only an obvious equal or superior to, but someone who knows this himself. In that regard, a young guy, mid 30's, would be perfect.

I secretly yearn for people to quote me more often but I'm too boring and, anyway, I thought anything posted on a public website was up for grabs. I don't mind that police actors show emotion but not so syrupy as David Caruso please! Although I don't feel this way about actual police. It would be freaky to see one on-the-job having an emotional moment. Caruso also adds a touch of self-righteousness to his roles which grates on my nerves. Also I said Robert Ulrich was presently ill but I meant Chuck Woolery! Oops. Are they similar in ANY way at all?!

Hi Trisha! Thank you for not being mad at me! I didn't realize what I had done till I read this again! You wrote it so well I was impressed, cos I feel the same exact way about the show right now and it was so funny to me someone thought the same thought only better. Seriously, I'm not trying to butter you up. hehe Thanks for the advice!
Hi Observer, I am very new to the internet. I'm still learning how to work my computer! It's my company when my husband is at work! That could be a bad thing! hehe If I do something again I shouldn't let me know!

Caruso also adds a touch of self-righteousness to his roles which grates on my nerves. He also speaks in that monotone voice and keeps his hands in his pockets all the time! hehe And you're not boring! I love these silly boards! All these people and these comments amaze me! My husband and my sister hates this show so I have no one at home to talk to about it. hehe I'm glad I found this chatter house!

If/when D'Onofrio leaves LOCI I would suggest Oliver Platt or maybe Tom Sizemore for quirky, in-your-face type of detectives.
I like the suggestion of Michael T. Weiss as well. I always enjoyed "The Pretender" and I think he would have the skill set to put on a good profiler.
Kyle Secor might be a possibility as long as the audience did not keep associating him with Bayliss from Homicide.
Do you think Dick Wolf would consider a female partner for Eames, or would he feel that it would be too much like "Cagney & Lacey"?
For bad guys to go up against Goren and Eames, I would vote for Andre Braugher, Andrew Robinson, Rene Auberjonois to name a few people off the top of my head. More ideas later.....
On the subject of quoting from other boards, I second the recommendation against it. Some boards have explicit policies against doing that. It's generally much better to ask permission or paraphrase, lest you run the risk of problems.

I secretly yearn for people to quote me more often but I'm too boring and, anyway, I thought anything posted on a public website was up for grabs. All right, you asked for it! I don't know much about copyright law, but I do think it should be noted that plagiarism isn't confined to professional and academic works. If you use someone else's original material without asking, and especially without crediting them, then you are stealing. Sure, most of us are posting for fun, but I don't think that disclaims our ownership of our thoughts and ideas, even if copyright law allows the owner of a message board the exclusive rights to all of the posts on their board (which is what I think is correct). This isn't directed at you, Nicolemarie, just to the idea that anything on the web, or even just on message boards is free for the taking.

...and, anyway, I thought anything posted on a public website was up for grabs. Sirenna, Technically, legally, most of it is (except when people have quoted copyrighted material on a public board). You notice, I didn’t tell her it was wrong or illegal. I told her it was not considered polite. There aren’t a lot of regulations dealing with public boards on the internet, but there is a kind of community, and culture, that has developed there. And there are standards of courtesy – sometimes called Netiquette (etiquette for the Net). No one is forced to abide by those standards, but those who don’t may find their internet friends getting irritated with them. When it gets bad enough, people may flame them, or shun them (ignore their posts as though they don’t exist), or, if a whole group of people on a board are ignoring such standards, those who don’t appreciate it may migrate, as a group, to a different board, as happened with many of us who used to post on the USA (now Universal) board. As for your earlier post: ...My point is that I think, though I may be niaive in so thinking, LO:CI doesn't concern themselves what issues might come up if they hire a certain 'cute minority' or not, even though viewers (not you, not observer ) might.... Regular thinking seems to worry about, and try to minimize the fallout concering issues of gender race and politics... ...LO:ci, although I don't really know why I'm sure about this would NOT raise these things as issues for why an actor wouldn'tbe hired, even though the audience might object.... Sirenna, you’ve made the same error here that TV Guide did... reading about network executives and turning them into a producer. You’re responding as though I was talking about “LO:ci” I wasn’t. I never once said anyone on the Criminal Intent production team would have any reservations about hiring Avery Brooks if they decided he was right for the lead. I said I didn’t think the network was ready to accept it. I can’t help feeling that you reacted to my post without really paying attention to it. I was careful throughout the post to specify that I was talking about what network executives would accept – I even specifically put in a couple of paragraphs to emphasize the point that I was *not* talking about the producers, but was talking about what they could get the network execs to accept: Please note that I’m talking about the network execs, not Balcer. Wolf I don’t know much about, though his shows tend towards pretty good racial/ethnic diversity. But I’m not sure he really believes in a strong, competent female ADA. Balcer, on the other hand, even in what was clearly designed to be a supporting role, gave Erbe a strong, competent character to portray. He helped to balance Eames with Goren by making her apparently the partner with seniority, and giving her at least one area in which she excels beyond him, i.e., computers. If D’Onofrio decided to leave I could imagine Balcer being willing to hire Brooks. I just can’t imagine the network accepting it. You don’t need to defend the producers and casting folk involved in Criminal Intent. I’m not saying anything against them. If I didn’t clarify enough that Balcer seems very balanced in his dealing with racial/ethnic issues, it’s because I considered that fact beyond obvious for anyone who watches the series, so I focused more on pointing out how well I thought he dealt with Eames. I have not been a big fan of network execs since the late ‘60s, when I watched the Smothers Brothers lose their battle for creative freedom. Execs still tend to be a bit behind on positive social issues, while letting sexualized violence be shown in primetime – in slow-motion and deliberately titillating detail. My attitude had been softening – towards NBC, if not towards CBS – until, without even the excuse of needing to censor something, an NBC exec chose to impose his own sense of the direction a storyline should take, rather than letting the showrunner run the show. If they’re going to pull rank on that level, I have no doubt they would veto any casting of a lead that made them uncomfortable, or that they feared might not go over well with viewers or advertisers.
