I think the show could go on without Goren, but it is going to be difficult & I really think it all hinges on who is going to be Logan's partner.
Although I began watching with intensity the show for the same reason as you, Shadow: Goren's quirky and intriguing ways, after a few episodes I really become hooked on the insite into the criminal's motives and the pyschological play of Goren vs bad guy. So I can totally see your take on this - how the show could pale by comparison without Goren ..... we shall see. I am skeptical that it will be worthy, since to stay CI - it all hinges on the unknown partner; as Logan is a good cop, but no where near a profiler.
I know you will not be the only fan the show will loose. Do you have any thoughts on what it would take for Logan's partner to pull the show together?

To tell the truth Metella, I haven't given even one thought really to the new partner, except to hope it isn't Bishop. I haven't seen Noth in D.H. nor in Law and Order, when he was partners with Lennie. I have really only seen him in Criminal Intent with Vincent a few weeks ago. There is a difference of night and day between the two. I wasn't all that impressed with him, but will give the guy a chance. I can see he is not a profiler like Goren and has a rough exterior compared to Gorens smooth as butter one.....Which do I prefer? Smooth as butter would be #1-2-&-3 choices. So Metella, no I haven't really thought about what would make this work...just that it won't be the same show anymore, and that is sad...for me anyway. Thank you for asking me, I appreciate it.... night and day is about right ..... well, maybe it would make you like the new set up a little better if you got some Logan episodes under your belt
can you catch the repeats on TNT? Then again, you may like Logan less! ha ha ha
waiting really bites the big one, eh?

Unfortunately Metella, I don't have cable. Doesn't come in good where I live...right near hi tension wires..almost under them. So I guess watching old L & O episodes is a no go...lol..lol. Really don't know if that is good or bad. Like you said I might like him less, so I guess I should just give him a chance on C.I.. I was told he was a big mouth on Law and Order...Don't know for a fact, only what I was told...and, I tend not to like big mouths. Maybe he won't play the same as he did back then...After all, he was banned to Staten Island for 10 or 15 years wasn't he?? Must have changed somehow. It will be interesting to see him more in depth instead of a tag a long behind Goren..lol....Still have my doubts but................... Shadow

Logan was more of a hot head than the big mouth.
See if your video store has rental copies of the second season of L&O. My Blockbuster usually has individual disks, from various series sets, available for rental. I'd recommend you watch the season premiere where his partner Max Greevey is gunned down. Great job by Chris Noth.

Since they pulled Chris Noth out of the recycle bin. How about if we double dip and pull out Andre Braugher, Det Frank Pembleton, from the Baltimore Police Department. (Homicide) and move him on up to New York. Shoot, He could lunch with his old colleague, Det John Munch from SVU I believe that Logan and Pembleton would clash. But I think the character Pembleton would bring to the interogation room, and show what Goren brings, which is insight and awareness to the crime and victims. Yes, I know, Frank had a stroke, but he quit smoking the fags...and was back on his beat, before the show ended....Trust me, he would be able to the job Heck Frank and Bobby, could even do a case or two together....

Andre Braugher and Vincent worked together on the episode "Subway" from Homicide didn't they? Cassie, they worked together very well in that one...a terrific team....the victim and the police officer holding his hand after that ill fated accident. Bring Andre into the mix and I think you would have dynamic pairing with him and Vincent together now and then..And he would have the smooth as butter acting style as Vincent with his own way of digging out the truth in interrogations..You are right Cassie, He would probably clash with Logan....but...think of what Andre would bring to the table for C.I. not to mention the sparks flying between him and Logan....lol You hit the nail on the head Cassie..... I hope that I am replying onto the correct thread. Thanks to Vidal on www.vincentdonofriofans.com for finding this Reuters article. D. *********** Sciorra hits street on 'Criminal Intent' Tue May 24, 2005 08:31 AM ET By Nellie Andreeva LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Annabella Sciorra, best known for her Emmy-nominated turn as Tony Soprano's mistress on HBO's "The Sopranos," will star opposite Chris Noth on NBC's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent." In the show's fifth season next fall, Noth and Sciorra will alternate with "Criminal Intent's" current series stars, Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe, with each pair fronting 11 of the 22 episodes. Sciorra will play Detective Carolyn Barek, Detective Mike Logan's (Noth) partner. Rene Balcer, the series' executive producer, described Sciorra's character as "a brilliant criminal profiler who ascended from the hardscrabble streets of Brooklyn's Cobble Hill to the highest ranks of the NYPD and beyond, spending two post-9/11 years with the FBI." Sciorra will begin filming her first episode of "Criminal Intent" on Thursday. "Annabella is an extremely talented and versatile actress who has that rare combination of beauty, sex appeal, power and humor," "Law & Order" creator Dick Wolf said. "I also anticipate she will have terrific chemistry with Chris." Co-starring on "Criminal Intent" are Jamey Sheridan and Courtney B. Vance. Sciorra recently guest-starred in the pilot of Wolf's short-lived "Law & Order: Trial by Jury." Her feature credits include "Cop Land," "What Dreams May Come" and the upcoming "Twelve and Holding" and Sidney Lumet's "Find Me Guilty." Reuters/Hollywood Reporter ***************

She's beautiful yes, but she's also got smarts. Street smarts. I'll be very curious to see what they do with her character.

::)This could work.
It's another Italian/Irish pairing, isn't it?

Sure, the character is written with streets smarts. wonderful.
Does the actress? I'm still disappointed that she is so classically beautiful.

Good heavens! Doesn't any VDO fan remember her from Mr. Wonderful? I for one am delighted. She's a first-rate actress who is equally effective at gentle (Jungle Fever) and very tough (Queens Supreme, if anyone saw that all-too-brief series). Dick Wolf doesn't hire mere eye candy, and he didn't this time. She and Noth should make a fine combination.
And since L&O seems to be overrun by Italians these days, let's deal with her name, which is pronounced (presuming she says it correctly, and I think she does) SHORE-ah.
I'm actually looking forward to this.

Thanks for the article, Dom. Very, very cool. DW must have been impressed by her performance in the very first episode of TBJ titled "The Abominable Showman". I think she was great in that. I also remember AS from The Hand That Rocks the Cradle and Whispers in the Dark (with Jamey Sheridan and Anthony LaPaglia). IIRC, I first saw her in Asteroid. (well okay, I originally tuned into that because it starred Michael Biehn!)
