AMAZING. Seriously, it was flawless. They did an excellent job all around. I loved every second. The acting, the writing, and the camera work were all great. It felt like a movie, the pace was good, and it kept me interested the entire hour. It really drew me in. Katie and Vincent looked excellent, especially Katie. GOD, I'm not even sure what else to say here, besides I LOVED it. I hope people watched, and they get rewarded with ratings. WAY better than ER, and I'm an ER fan aswell. GREAT JOB! I loved the new settings that they filmed at, it had a WAY more realistic feel than most of the NBC episodes that we saw last year. And, HE CALLED HER "ALEX". My shippery heart was in love. This was the best episode of CI ever.

"Lady?" ;D He's back! Rogers as a blonde? As far as the crime, I'm still navigating that road course!

I also like that he called her Alex, though I'm still not a shipper. I also liked his "whack job" face ;D
Not sure I care one way or the other on the theme music change, but I did like the new visual style of the opener.
USA does a great job with the ads, too. I think they're the main reason I tuned in. The only one that made me worry was the, "this isn't one of your puzzles, Bobby, this is my life," and I was pleased to see that the "this is my life" part didn't make the final cut, and not just to cut down on the melodrama factor. KE is so expressive and skilled with body language that keeping that bit of dialog would have taken something away. Several somethings, really. So many emotions passed through her eyes ... Beautiful work.

He did call her Alex (and he was driving)! Wonderful episode and loved all the commercials talking about the move to USA. Loved the fast-paced music in the opening too! I think LOCI on USA is going to be the beginning of a beautiful friendship!

No, the camera work was awful! I hated the jerkiness, and the quick-zoom. I had to turn away several times as my motion sickness acted up. I loved the OLD theme song...it was the best of the bunch and I wish they hadn't changed it. Cable went haywire a few times and I missed some lines. Couldn't believe Rodgers' hair! And yes...Bobby called her Alex. *g* Glad to know Joe's last name, too. More tomorrow...but I have to know: who won the beard poll??

The tie clip!!! They had a whole vignette about the TIE CLIP!!!! :-D
And Kate Erbe is the best thing on tv. I have always known this.

I thought the "tie clip" remark was an inside nod to all the VDObsessed fans... ;D...Loved it! Goren was quirky, Eames was tough but stricken, Ross was noble...and Rodgers' has been out in the sun too long...(HATE the blondage )

I was very happy about this episode. Perhaps I'll feel differently with subsequent viewings, but I thought this an extremely well constructed episode. It offered no easy answers to any of the crimes, and the revelation of the real killer of Eames' husband was agonizing. There was something of a role reversal with Goren being the relatively stable one and Eames the suffering one. The acting was splendid--please, Emmy people, at least look at Kathryn Erbe.
The only jumpy editing I saw was in the skateboard park scene, which I have to admit I wasn't fond of.
Yes, he finally called her "Alex".
I also loved the "whack" job bit.
What I appreciated most was the relative subtlety of this episode. It could have been over the top, but it was controlled, with the tension a constant undercurrent.
I even enjoyed the preview of next week's episode.

Oh, I'm sure the tieclip thing was deliberate. I was lmao. Must agree with you about Rodgers' hair, but I loved her little sensitive remark to Eames. Loved it all, really. It was at once a throwback and something new. The crime was a little tough to keep track of, but I'm sure there'll be plenty of time for better stories this season ... I do wish that, if they had to change the theme, they'd used the TBJ one, which is truly exciting ... I thought that the way they showed Goren and Eames interacting was very real. You had the sense that there were edges and difficulties but that they had survived the relationship and had mutual understanding. Yes, I liked how he called her Alex, but I LOVED when he told the archive guy to call her "Detective Eames." Ship or no ship, it was very sweet. Not to push this too hard or anything, but if KE's performance wasn't Emmy-worthy I don't know what was. Moreover, no spiders were harmed in the making of the episode (take that, Mariska!). I'm taking a nap now to catch it again, eight o'clock class and all. I'm pathetic If you see me posting after that, please HIT me! I do have to work early :-P [eta: must agree with PatCat: it could have been over the top but was deeply subtle. For instance, where there was humor, it was very restrained and came mostly from Ross. Anyways. Loved it.]

No, see...the only problem I had with the epi was the story...it was too easy to figure out. "...the little guy..."(not a quote)and on the porch with Sesame Street Grammpa...either the crimes are getting simpler, or I'm getting smarter...

So now we know. Eames kept her maiden name--her late husband was Joe Dutton.
On a very shallow note, I don't like Rodgers as a blonde at all. She looks much older, tired, and weary. The hair coloring does not flatter her--she's much more attractive as a redhead.
I thought "Amends" was very good but unlike girlinblack I feel it is far from flawless. I liked the gritty edgy opening credits which suited this episode very well. Thankfully we were spared the music video opening that was so troublesome last year. However, I have some problems with it which I will address after I comment on the positives.
I enjoyed the one moment of comic relief, the homage to tie clip obsessiveness when Goren dares Det. Copa to describe what his (Goren's) tie clip looks like. I was LOL during this scene.
On a very basic fundamental level, I felt the personal drama and Eames backstory issues were handled very well, with subtlety, as I hoped. They served the story well as providing more information about Eames and how she hadn't completely come to terms with Joe's death. It was also very refreshing to see Kathryn Erbe take center stage with her character right out of the gate in Season 7.
I liked how Goren is able to scope out how the wrong person was identified as the killer. His natural curiosity about the case and questioning of Det. Copa's details about the what went down when his partner was shot is vintage Goren, only with more edge and urgency.
Hoyt McCallany is excellent as Det. Pete Copa. He registered so many emotions, from guilt over his partner's death and inability to make eye contact with Goren, to vulnerability when his macular degeneration was discovered to cast serious doubts on his identification of his partner's shooter. I started off being very angry at and suspicious of Copa, and ended up with some measure of sympathy for him as he now is relegated to desk duty and will possibly be forced to retire.
However...I agree with reviewer Rick Ellis in that the second half of "Amends" falls apart after the tightly wound and compelling first half. The road to the real killer left me with too many questions as to why the people involved did what they did.
My two biggest questions about the characters' actions are these: ---why did Det. Quinn identify the wrong person as his partner Joe Dutton's killer years ago? I understand why the drug dealer made someone else the scapegoat, and maybe I missed some other details, but I don't understand how Quinn made his mistake. ---what was the ER doctor character doing at the scene of Joe Dutton's murder years ago? I can't reconcile how he could be in a gang involved with drug dealing, and then finding religion after Dutton's death to move him to save the lives of others. It was all too quick, too conveniently wrapped up for my taste.
I also have other problems involving credibility with this episode, the most obvious and glaring one being how Eames was allowed to stay involved in the investigation into the murder of her late husband's partner when she was so emotionally involved in the case. But then again, CI hasn't always concerned itself with accuracy in this type of detail. Looking at CI over the course of the past 6 seasons, one would get the impression that MCS investigates homicides to the exclusion of almost anything else, which in the real world is not the case.
Still, despite these flaws, I came away from viewing "Amends" very satisfied because my basic requisite of subtlety had been met. And, after all, it was the premiere episode of CI in a brand new home. After my season of discontent last year, I was prepared to give "Amends" a lot of latitude in my appraisal. On a deep personal level, it did not disappoint me and was overall quite satisfying.
