Psychochik, if you didn't tape "Slither" and are waiting for the USA rerun, it's scheduled to be on Saturday January 28 at 11PM ET.

As to Bernard/Thierry whatever his name was, my guess was he was sophisticated and debonair and if such a man took interest in you, why then you must be pretty special. For these women at least, I may be a sucker for an accent but I wasn't even intrigued by this guy. Although York did a good slime, he wasn't a charismatic grab-your-attention type. And I'm blonde!
I thought that "Inspector Goren" (as opposed to "Detective") was gonna be a hint, but they didn't vocalize it.
I dunno. I watched this episode to see what they'd do with the Nicole connection--which I'm getting pretty frikkin' tired of--but it seemed kind of, meh. And I missed the whole title connection for "Slither."

Ah, sweet manipulation!
Where would detectives and their fiction be without it and their criminals for that matter.
Nicole used control to get others to do what she wanted just as Bernard did; albeit she used more honey than grease.
It's an interesting point, techguy, about taking responsibility for your choices. Goren would definately agree with you and I think its a theme central to the show and often the defining element that separates him from the criminals. It brings up so many interesting ideas. Relious ones, like the Christian belief that God gave us free will and our choices can condemn us or redeem us and be our salvation like Acts of Contrition, Pilgrim et al.
It relates to ideas of destiny versus self-determination as in Stray, Anth-thesis where, as Goren points out, each of the characters, could have taken a different path and had a better life or made better lives for others.
And it relates to ideas of looking at ourselves from the inside out and facing the truth - or choosing not to and, instead, to give our only real power to somone else; letting them define who we are. That we've seen in this episode or any of Nicole's episodes as well as Blink, con-text, see me and many others, especially all those with with the ubiquitous mirror scenes in the interrogation room with Goren point pointing out the defects!
I'm not disagreeing that Bernard's charm was pretty thin but then I used to like Tom Cruise so who am I to judge. (I've since seen the error of my ways! LOL)

I am so bummed out. I missed the show. I pooped out at like 7pm due to the cold from heck. So it is going to be on USA in two weeks? I can't wait. Sounds like I missed a great episode.

I totally thought this episode was a good one, the head in the fridge was a little weird, I mean, its obvious they tried to move the fridge so no one would find it, and since they couldn't, don't you think it would have just been more logical to move the head ? That was the only part I didn't like, granted it was a pretty big piece of the puzzle, but still. LOL. There's a dumb blond joke in there somewhere. I just know it!

I could picture it at the end: Nicole in the Starbucks on the other side of the street, waiting for Goren et al. to storm out...and nothing!
I had the same beef about Grow. When it comes to Nicole, some basic police work get lost in oblivion...but we get the whole night surveillance in Silver Lining or the whole cavalry is dispatched in Magnificat.
The story in itself wasn't all bad. There were some good elements. Even though I thought that Goren went a little overboard on the typewriter ribbon, I always enjoy when he's sweating a little to understand a suspect's intentions. It's always a good sign that the confrontation between him and the criminal will be good.
Not this time. I don't mind when Goren uses toadying (is it the right term???) to catch a perp, but this season the traps he is setting lack the finesse of other seasons. In this episode (and in others too) it was big, obvious and quite frankly not believable.
It's disappointing because the story was off to a great start. The characters' personnalities were well presented, Bernard seemed to have the potential to be a worthy opponent to Goren and he goes from smart to dumb in one nanosecond!
My 2 cents on why Nicole would kill Bernard since he spoke so highly of her is that his other blondie got him out of jail but he didn't tried to get her out after that. He simply scoots and lets her rot in jail. Maybe she was a little pissed off by that.

Pehaps she's pissed at Bernard for "breaking" her. Goren forced her to see that there's something wrong with her, and she's looking for someone to blame. Maybe, like Goren, her father is long dead and can't be confronted even if she was willing to face what happened to her, so she takes out her anger on others she deems unworthy. For all Bernard's finessing and cool manipulation, he's not nearly as smart as Nicole, and she must have realized that a long time ago. I see a basic lack of respect for him there, as well as simply for the fact that he's a man and can be manipulated the same way as most other men.

Maybe Nicole killed Benard in another attempt to eliminate her past life? And like someone else posted, I'm trying to figure out why this one was called "Slither". Slither like a snake perhaps? LOL!!

Someone posted why it was called "Slither" earlier (I know I should look but I also am supposed to be working!) (bah, work). It's after a novel called Serpentine. Yeah, there's more. In the last few pages.
I just watched the ep last night and I was completely unspoiled because I haven't been watching much TV lately. First time EVER I was pleased to see Nicole.

I was glad to hear Nicole come up but at the same time not. I'm still torn. I just dont think they should lean on that character so much.

Before I was so rudely interrupted by a client...... I thought Goren had an empty hand and was showing that 'look - no tacks!' at the contractor in a 'ha ha, gotcha with nothin'!" gesture. Anyway. I enjoyed the Nicole references and I am not one of her fans. (The actress, yes. The character - as written usually? Not so much. She's not as smart as the writers think either). It was just kind of "hey! I know her!" Funny that Deakin's referenced The Manson's for Bernard and His Girls. I thought of John Derek and his lookalike yet younger by a couple of decades descending wives: Ursula Andress, Linda Evans, Bo Derek. I don't really understand why anyone would subjugate their will to another myself, but I do know that it happens. I have a hard time giving up the remote. Not understand Bernard's appeal? D'Artagnan? Sally Bowle's boyfriend (in the movie Cabaret).....i.e. Michael York? He is bee-yoo-tee-ful! Aging, but hey, who isn't? As for the language thing, since I'm pretty much SF Bay Area English, all accents sound foreign and exotic to me and I couldn't pick out which was which if I tried. (Well, if I tried.). I don't mind any actor doing the best he can as written for his character - otherwise it's not so much acting as it is finding someone with the right linguistic background and getting them to recite lines. I'm not for blue eyed caucasions playing Every One, but I think we swing a little far in the opposite direction at times.
