just wondering mettlea where did you get the part that a replecement has already been chosen form last reports dick wolf has basicaly said that it is not neecry for the momment but also i should say that in article dick wolf said that chris noth was on a list of possible replecements( does this not mean that they may have been looking at others as well). as for the appreacne of chris noth in an epsidoe i think it could be a means of setting up the context for the new law and order movies he was going to be in. now this makes sense beacuse it wont work to have pop up in the orignal law and order( van buren might accidiently kill him) at the moment( and not on the new show either i mean lennie birscoe might have a thing or two to say about that). plus so how i dont see how he could end up effectilvey on suv. so the perfect show to set up the prelude to the law and order movies is at the moment cirminnial intent ( i mean sure he could go and meet the other casts in the movies but for an epsiode he has to many fences to bridge to make it worth wathcing and foucs on the sotry and the acutal crime). reagrds rom.

ven VDO's little accent bothers me sometimes. Vincent says his words so perfectly, it's almost distracting! I wonder if he talks like that on purpose?

Mel Tex I really enjoyed him (and the series) in Boomtown. Why do all the realistic and good ones seem to go down the tube ? chief Hey! I liked Boomtown too! I taped all of the episodes! It's on DVD now. But I liked Boomtown because of Neal McDonough, not Donnie! New kids, oh my! That takes me back to 9th grade! Donnie replacing Vincent?!?! hehehe! Too funny! ;D

I'm trying to figure out how Noth would fit into CI- most of the scenes are Vincent! I do not want them to get rid of Eames. Or even replace Vincent. I'm not a Vincent fan, I'm a CI fan and I would hate to see someone come into the show 4, 5 years into it and mess up the chemistry. I also watch SVU and Rom is right, there is no room for Noth there but there isn't any room on CI for Noth either!

Hi Nicholemarie, Glad that we agree on Boomtown, but we'll have to disagree on Donnie. Perhaps its my having been born in Boston. As for anyone coming in to replace a character in CI, or any other series, look how many times that has occurred in L&O and NYPDBlue, and the result has apparently been seamless. chief

For those of you who haven't already, I'd check out the NYT article posted in articles and interviews for what seems to be the official word from both Mr. D'Onofio and Mr. Wolf.

Dear romulanavatra3, Have you ever heard of puncuation? I'm sure you have some interesting thoughts and ideas to post, but I can't figure them out! Hi Summerfield: I think Rom has a form of dyslexia. Many of us have adopted styles of writing that seem different at first. I find Rom's style pretty easy to understand but I've known him on these boards for over a year. If any of us write something that's not clear feel free to ask for clarification.

There is no one else that could pull off VDO role. I love watching this show every week because of him. I even loved watching him in Men in Black. Everytime I see him on CI I think about his role in MIB. Edger, Edger suit.
If I could meet any actor in the world he is the one I would really like to meet.

Personally, I think the show would go down the drain if D'Onofrio was replaced. There is NOBODY that can replace him.

I find it difficult to believe that Chris Noth is being considered/has been hired to replace D'Onofrio. If they bring him on, it'd have to be as the same character he played on the mothership -- Logan. Logan wasn't anything at all like Goren. He was a hothead who acted on emotion and instinct. He'd be one to sneer at the in-depth psychological probing done by Goren.
If Logan's the new Goren, Criminal Intent won't be the same show at all.
However, I still believe that, if absolutely necessary, Goren COULD be replaced by another detective. One who shares his interest in the psychological intracasies of the cases, but who has a different personality. I believe in the writers of this show. They're smart, versatile and have studied the ins and outs of psychological pathologies.
It'd take a bit for me to adjust, but if they could endow a new character with psychological insights similar to Goren's, I'd continue to watch...

Did I miss something here? Many are still suggesting their choices for replacing D'O. I thought that the NY Times article put to rest the rumor he was leaving. That said, if Noth (playing Logan) replaced D'O he might not be as psychologically motivated, but (IMHO) he would be a much more believable NYPD detective. chief

Let me clarify again, this thread is NOT about suggesting a replacement for him because of the exhaustion thing. My timing in creating this thread may suggest otherwise, but really, it was just for a little fun to see where our fellow posters would take the show if VDO HAD TO BE replaced. Which, incidentally, seems inevitable if the show is to go beyond a 5th or 6th season. I'm still unclear on this.
I was under the impression that he and Ms. Erbe were under 5 year contracts. But now in two separate interviews, VDO has mentioned being under contract for up to a 6th year. He also added that he will not sign on for more.
So, unless the show is to end after the 5th or 6th season, someone will have to be hired to take the seat across from Eames/Erbe. I think the show can be a success without VDO, it may even be better.
(Don't kick me for being optimistic)

I agree trisha. I think the series would be better w/o D'O, but that is just another opinion. Thanks for clarifying about why/when you started the thread. chief

Whoa, don't put words in my mouth, Chief. I don't want VDO to leave, I like him. But, if he does leave, for whatever reason, I think the show could go on without him, and I thinks it's possible that it could be even better. The show wouldn't be the same without him, I don't deny that. But, the show hasn't been the same with each passing season, anyway. I loved the first season. It's the reason I still watch now. I keep hoping to see that funny, quirky, energetic guy who blew me away with his brilliance and intensity every Sunday. Haven't seen him in a while, but I remain optimistic about that, as well
